In a small holonet café on Coruscant, Padawan Paige Garrel devised a decoy advertisement to alert Master Aeria Voru of her location in hopes of being rescued; upon leaving the small café, however, Paige was captured and drugged by an unseen enemy. She awoke temporary paralyzed and locked in a solitary prison cell, and after several hours of drifting in and out of consciousness, Paige was greeted by Jora Nexiri, a Dark Jedi. Injected with a serum to reverse the effects of the paralyzing drug, Paige suspected Jora would pretend to be sympathetic in order to discern information from the Jedi. Although Jora made no pretenses to be compassionate, she did begin to interrogate Paige.

Meanwhile, having learned of Paige’s capture, Blake Isul waited for Aeria in the lower levels of Coruscant so that they could rescue her apprentice. Aeria exposed herself to the Imperials so that she would be captured and taken into the prison, and Blake, having clearance to the penitentiary, gained access with ease. The Jedi Master made easy work of her captors, and she and Blake met outside Paige’s cell just as Jora asked about the Padawan’s master.

Aeria and Jora engaged in a lightsaber duel, leaving Blake to assist Paige in exiting her prison cell. With some well-executed stabs at the infrastructure, Master Voru was able to induce a collapse of the hallway which created a barrier between the opposing parties. Blake and the two Jedi encountered minor resistance from the prison guards before finding a ventilation pipe which they had hoped would lead them to safety. The pipe met with a vertical shaft that held only an unusable cable, and using a grappling hook supplied by Blake, the trio climbed out into a corridor leading to their exit. Unbeknownst to them, Jora let them escape as she planted a tracking device on Paige’s lightsaber.

Suddenly Aeria collapsed in the hallway, sensing that her brother, Tais Voru, was in danger on Kalee, and she insisted that they had to return to help him against Darth Sinis. Blake and Paige helped her get a change of clothing before emerging from the prison and found a large crowd of people, from which they learned that Edwis Josdon had officially changed the government and declared himself leader of the Empire. During a speech, Josdon also announced the Council of Moffs and alterations to the military, boldly declaring “The Republic is dead. Long live the Empire!”

While the trio made contact with Brinton Nox, a former Senator who offered to help Aeria, Garreth Astrid had her droid 8ICU keep tabs on Paige and her company. Master Voru told Paige that she would leave with Senator Nox while she and Blake would return to Kalee to save Tais. While sitting next to the hyperdrive casings of the Laughing Maiden, Paige was surprised to find that her sister, Garreth, had boarded the Senator’s ship.
