Aerek was born on the planet Bestine, the first of 2 children. A year and a half after his birth, he was given a brother, David. His parents separated when they were both young, too young to remember much of the event. Aerek’s father, Ezekiel Gage, joined the military, which caused him to lose contact with his children. Their mother, Lea, raised them both. Aerek and David grew up being very close, but they were both very different. David was smart and well mannered, while Aerek often got into trouble for stealing and fighting. As they grew older, Aerek continued to misbehave, and David was the poster boy for the perfect son. Following in their father’s footsteps, both Aerek and David tried to join the military at the age of 18, enlisting in a boot camp style program to prepare them for the hardships they would face during their time of service. Aerek, of course, didn’t make it too far, what with his bad attitude and lack of respect for his superiors.
After being removed from the boot camp, Aerek made his way through life as an aspiring mechanic. His interest in various vehicles and machines held his interest more then getting into trouble and fighting did, and he picked up the trade very quickly. After David was shipped off to the military, Aerek decided that he wasn’t going to stay on Bestine and rot. He found a ship who’s crew was lacking a mechanic. Aerek didn’t make friends with them, he only acted as if they were his employer. He did what he had to do while he was on the ship, and that’s it. He kept in contact with David, talking almost every day about what he was coming to experience in the military, and how he was meeting new people and going new places. Aerek always told David that he was still on Bestine, to keep him from worrying too much.
Shortly after his new traveling career had begun, Aerek found himself on the planet Smarteel, where he met a retired smuggler. This disappointed Aerek a bit, what with his bad attitude always looking for more trouble, but then that’s when the man’s son came in. His name was Daniel, and he was Aerek’s key to the world of organized crime and underground smuggling. After a few runs together, Aerek found someone that he could trust, but whether or not he was a friend, would be a completely different story.
As Aerek worked with Daniel more and more he met with a woman that was happened to be Daniel’s second half at the time, Astrade Tur’esta. They were sent off together, doing various jobs. Gage was almost always sent with Astrade when he was given a job from Daniel. After a while, however, Daniel’s attitude started to change from a reasonable man to somewhat of a power hungry control freak, one who disliked when Aerek took on a job from another client besides himself. He displayed this by getting into a heated argument with Aerek, when he tried to control him as if he was a puppet of his own making, and of course, Aerek never responded well when it came to being controlled. But unfortunately for Daniel, the more Aerek worked, the more he became less dependent on Daniel, and more self promoting, offering his services as a hired thug and mechanic to the highest bidder. After a few months, the bonds between Daniel and Aerek were all but severed, both having gone their separate ways.
Four months after Aerek Gage’s last contact with Daniel, Astrade contacted him for a job. Of course, with Aerek being a full fledged ‘businessman’, he accepted. After having accepted the mission, Aerek found out about the demise of his former crime agent Daniel, but didn’t think much about it. During the course of the job, he learned the truth behind Daniel’s murder, by Astrade’s hand.
If their last encounter was a bit more light hearted, Aerek might have cared about his death, but of course, given the circumstances of their separation, he didn’t give two shits about who, or why, Daniel was killed. . As time went on, he continued to receive jobs from his contacts, though they weren’t as important to him as most would think. They had names that were easily forgotten, so Aerek wouldn’t be able to name them with out the face being present. And thus, despite the lack of Daniel in his life, Gage continued to make his way being a hired gun.
Nine months ago, Aerek received some deadly news. Like their father before them, David had met his untimely end serving in the military. It wasn’t in battle, however. The report he received stated that he was gunned down in his quarters by a rival, one whom he out did and apparently embarrassed to the brink of madness. He quit taking jobs while he went to visit his Brother’s tomb, which was placed next to his father’s and mother’s, on Bestine. His mother had fell victim to depression, which led to her suicide. Aerek only visited their graves one time, said his farewells, then moved on. He believed that he would find nothing that would help him there, though it broke his heart to have them dead.
When the Republic changed to the Empire, it was like the sun setting and the moon rising, something that didn’t much matter at all to Aerek, as long as he was getting paid and had the money to put food in his stomach. Being the last of the Gage family alive, he set out to make a name for himself, whether it be in the business of organized crime, or elsewhere.
