Personality
Anaria is very strong willed and self-motivated woman. She does not have a problem expressing her opinions or ideas, even if they are sometimes conflicting with the sentiments of the people around her. That is not to say that she does not respect the opinions of others, for she does and this has made her a very skilled negotiator.
She is an intelligent woman, and can come across as haughty upon first meeting. But do not let that fool you into believing she is. Elegant and very refined, Anaria does have a warm side to her that is seen by very few. She enjoys charitable work and the company of children, although she refuses to subjugate herself to the indignation of finding a suitable mate simply to have a child. As Anaria enjoys telling people, there are far too many children in the galaxy needing a good home as it is.
Anaria is well read and well versed, as most women in the Hapes Consortium is, and can play the feegharp (a stringed Hapan instrument used for playing sonatas and other instrumental type pieces) on a concert level, although she enjoys playing more for herself and any suitor she may be currently entertaining. It is her way of winding down from the rigors of a stressful diplomatic day. She also enjoys cooking and, even though she has servants to do it for her, she still prepares fine dishes by hand. She finds delight in seeing the satisfied expressions on her guest’s faces when they sample her dishes.
Anaria does have a small and secret vice that not even the closest of her circle is aware of. She has fought an addiction to spice, namely Neutron Pixie, since the time she was seventeen years old. For the most part, she has been able to work her way through withdrawal of the substance, which includes perspiration, weakened muscles, aching joints and bones and mental torpor. Inevitably, though she tends to fall once again to its ecstatic effects whenever she visits her brother, for he is a full-blown addict. As long as she remains away from him and the temptation of Neutron Pixie, she is able to resist the drugs call.
History
Anaria Fain was born the eldest child of T’nera Fain and her consort Lio on the planet Hapes in the Hapan Consortium. Her brother Joris was born approximately two years later and provided Anaria with a playmate growing up. With the exception of a few years spent living in the royal court of the Queen Mother as a very young child - for T’nera was one of the Minister’s of External Affairs - Anaria’s life prior to turning ten was uneventful. She grew up in a wealthy home to a well respected mother and loving father in an area of the royal city that catered to the elite.
Upon her tenth birthday, Anaria was sent to an exclusive school where she was taught the nuances of leadership and government rule. As the daughter of the family, and the eldest, she was expected to conduct herself with the utmost decorum and elegance at all times. This was not a problem for young Anaria. At least, not until she disagreed with one of her teachers three years later. This was the first time she had ever expressed an opposing argument and she was to be severely punished for it.
The incident, though, was enough to make her teacher stand back and reevaluate what her student Anaria had said. The following day, she proposed to Anaria that if she could prove her argument had valid merit, she would lift the punishment. Anaria did and the teacher gained a new respect in the way the young woman thought. It was at that point in her life, at the age of thirteen, that Anaria’s teachers began to groom her for the life of a diplomat. Her schooling changed, focusing heavily on political history, negotiation skills and the customs of other worlds within the Consortium.
She graduated at the top of her class and it was during her graduation party that Anaria had her first brush with the spice known as Neutron Pixie. Leaving the party to get a breath of fresh air, she wandered the gardens of her family estate. She found her younger brother skulking at the edge of the garden, mumbling and groaning to himself in a state of euphoric ecstasy. Curious to see if he was all right, she approached him, only to thrust her nose in the air when she saw the spice in his hand. Joris convinced her that it was harmless, and even though she knew his words were untruthful, she allowed him to talk her into trying the drug.
Anaria found herself as blissfully aware as her brother – Neutron Pixie heightened the senses - but the next day the side effects alarmed her as she could not rise from her bed for the pain in her joints and bones. She knew that she could have been in a worse state had she tried more of the drug. As much as she wanted to lollygag in her bed all day until the effects passed, she could not. She was expected at the palace to assist her mother in negotiating a deal as a diplomatic liaison. She had prepared all of the information her mother required for the meeting. This was a test of her mettle, her abilities thus far. If she had provided her mother the wrong or incorrect information, the deal would fall through and both she and her mother would be looked down upon. If she passed the test and the deal was signed, she would apprentice under her mother’s tutelage and eventually take her mother’s place.
Pushing past the pain in her body, Anaria entered the negotiation room with a sweeping grace and dazzling smile that belied the discomfort she was experiencing. She greeted the representatives of Hapan members Gallinore and Vigill with proper decorum, introduced her mother and settled in to assist her as needed, watching her mother negotiate an amicable and beneficial deal between the two worlds leading families based on the information Anaria had provided. A deal that would make the entire Hapan Consortium wealthy in the future.
That negotiation was her first step into her productive and highly acclaimed future. She helped set up powerful unions among the many planets of the Consortium as well as bring in more that were within their cluster and unwilling to rely on the Republic due to the Republic’s reliance on the Jedi.
The one thing Anaria remained quiet over was the state of the Republic and her people’s animosity towards the Jedi. It was a volatile subject among the court. But she also knew that in time they would not be able to remain behind the curtain in their own cluster. As a wise woman on her planet once said, ‘Even the seasons must change’.
It was during a dinner with the Queen Mother that the idea of opening the borders to the Hapan worlds arose. Anaria was 37 and had proven to be a most capable negotiator and diplomat. Outside worlds had learned of the quality product of the Hapan worlds, of their delicacies, their shipbuilding prowess, the beauty of their women – and this praise was coming for exiled members of the Hapes Consortium. Although loathe to trust in the citizens of the Republic, the Queen Mother was willing to at least entertain the idea of ‘spreading the highest quality of life of the Hapan people’ to the worlds beyond. She asked Anaria to become her Diplomatic Liaison in these affairs.
At first Anaria was not sure if it was a good idea, but she told her Queen that an experiment with another planet not of the Hapan Cluster would be a good test. Agreeing to Anaria’s wisdom, the Queen Mother set her liaison on a mission to research an appropriate planet, present her findings, determine a single product, and present it all to her.
The planet chosen was Alderaan, a beautiful world with natural resources unfound anywhere in the cluster and that could easily be traded to the Hapan people. With the monarchy being as it were, and the planet being of a peaceful nature, it was the perfect place to start. Armed with a list of things she could offer the peaceful Alderaanian people – unique raw minerals, exotic spices, clothing materials developed and produced in the Cluster - Anaria made her way to the planet and a diplomatic discussion with the Queen and her consort on Alderaan. Although the details of the trade and negotiations are known only to Anaria and the Alderaanian monarchy, the Hapes Consortium and Alderaan shared a mutual and beneficial one time trade with an open ended agreement if ever the two planets wished to deal again.
As she continued her work as Diplomatic Liaison, Anaria began to see the changes in the galaxy beyond the borders of her own home. Negotiating on Tanaab at the time of the Great Jedi Purge, she was not unhappy to see the venerable order destroyed.
As she negotiating on Tanaab, enjoying the planet and its people, she is approached by a curious young man. At first Anaria thinks he is just but one of many men interested in her for her beauty. But she was wrong. He was sent from Emperor Josdon's office to learn more about the Hapan Consortium. Word of her negotiations and the Consortium's renewed trading with planets outside their cluster had reached the government's ears. He was curious what the Hapan Consortium could offer the Empire. What was their goals in their negotiations with member planets? What did they expect from the Empire? And could their be a possible alliance between the two governments.
Intrigued with the prospect, Anaria invited the young man to accompany her back to Hapes in order to speak with the Queen Mother before simply taking off on her own to negotiate something that may not be welcome by her people.
She returned home and, with the Imperial representative at her side, proposed her idea of going to Coruscant to open a dialog with the government to the Queen Mother. The Queen Mother saw the value of her logic and gave Anaria permission to return to the seat of the Empire to discuss the questions the governing body had. Armed with the Queen Mother’s seal of approval, her own mother’s blessing and encouragement, Anaria Fain leaves Hapes to travel to Coruscant with one goal in mind: to open up a dialog with a possibly new ally.
Possessions:
Anaria owns a small, yet well maintained estate on Hapes within the Royal City. When she is away on diplomatic missions, it is taken care of by the myriad servants there.
When traveling, she carries a wide variety of clothing with her, from casual wear to highly elegant evening attire. As she ferried from planet to planet on a Hapan Naval ship, she is able to maintain and update her wardrobe as seen fit. By also allowing her the use of the ship, Anaria is able to return home with the spoils of her labor.
Even though she is proficient in the use of hand weapons, Anaria prefers to not carry a weapon upon her person. This is, after all, what she pays her two bodyguards for.
