Aslyn was born on Corellia as the son of two employees for what remains as Corellian Engineering. Aslyn's mother worked as an Administrator, while his father was a maintenance inspector responsible for the inspection and consequential upkeep of several small maintenance facilities on the planet. As a result, even from a young age, the Corellian spent a significant amount of time around ships and, more often, ship parts which would later become a useful skill as he grew older.
Prior to moving into his teens, he was identified as a Force Sensitive by the Jedi Watchman responsible for overseeing the Corellia system and put through a large number of tests in order to determine whether that particular potential was sufficient to warrant training in the Jedi Arts, the results of which inevitably proved to be sufficient to warrant an invitation to join the Jedi.
At the consent of his parents, he therefore was allowed to leave his family home and travel to the Jedi Temple in order to begin training to release some of the potential that was apparently there, if not to train as a Jedi Knight in the long run, if indeed he was capable of it. Although originally reluctant to take this path, since it wasn't the one he'd envisioned taking with regards to a later career in life, Aslyn's natural obstinancy refused to allow such a thing in interfere with the challenges ahead, and he has therefore thrown himself into his training with significant enthusiasm.
As an early student, he found many of the principles taught to him to be both strange and somewhat arcane, given that for the majority of his early life, he hadn't been introduced to the concept of the Force, and knew nothing of it beyond the odd observation made by his parents regarding their simple lack of belief in the Jedi and their abilities - certainly they were real enough, but his technologically-minded parents were too pragmatic to believe in 'sorcery'. There had to be some other explanation for the abilities demonstrated by the Jedi, they had said, and so the young human had spent most of his early time at the Temple looking for one, which hadn't boded well for his training. It never occured to him to wonder at the fact that his parents had agreed to Jedi training even given their skepticism with regards to the Order.
Once his own misunderstandings had cleared, the student took to learning everything he could, being careful to question everything he was taught, and thus developed something of an analytical mindset, for which reason he tends to spend most of his free time rumaging around in the Archives, looking up obscure data and trying (successfully or otherwise) to learn as much as he can about the Jedi and their traditions, figuring that if he was to become one, it would surely be appropriate to understand as much of the history and practices that went into making the Jedi what they are for the moment.
Although aware of the idea of the Light and Dark sides of the Force, Aslyn tends to dismiss the very notions of such divisiveness in favour of simple academic objectivity - thus, eschewing potential ethical conflicts, leading him to study both traditions without any particular bias either way, something for which his teachers marked as a potential danger and have tried to since discourage, which the student takes as being more of a reason to keep going than to stop.
While such thinking had, perhaps, marred his progression towards becoming a Jedi Knight, those same tendencies have also led him to focus more on the Scholar's arts, directing his studies away from the more classical arts, such as lightsaber combat, toward the lesser-studied disciplines of a natural academia.
During the Jedi Purge, the Padawan was off-world, visiting the ruins of the old Jedi Library on Ossus with an archaeological team, and thus was not able to escape, at least for the moment, the attacks made on the Jedi which had so eviscerated their numbers. He first made his way to the peaceful world of Bellassa, believing it to be an appropriate planet for a Jedi to hide, given that the populace was constituted by pacifists, and as such, one adhering to Jedi principles would fit in well as a result. However, on arrival, he was rapidly identified as a member of the Jedi Order by Senator Rhiara D'Loroc, who requested that he leave Bellassa as a consequence of the Imperial bounty on Jedi. Before he was able to do so, however, an Imperial Star Destroyer arrived in orbit of the planet, essentially trapping him.
Eventually escaping with the diversion at the Senator's residence keeping him clear of Imperial forces, Aslyn followed a hyperspace trail belonging to the Senator's escort vessel, which lead him to the Phu Asteroid Belt, where the secret Rebel base of Sanctum was located. Identifying himself as a member of the Jedi Order, he was permitted to land, and thus reunited with other members of the Order that had escaped the Purge and made their way to the hidden facility, using it as a safehouse. He remained there until the facility was attacked by pirates under the command of Jergen Callow. During the engagement, he was forced to kill an individual for the first time, allowing him to escape the base and join with the others fleeing the Rebel Base.
The fleet arrived at Sernpidal in the Outer Rim, at which point Aslyn joined the other Jedi on the Marauder-class Corvette known as Haven, and then posted quarters on the new Rebel base on the surface or Sernpidal, where he has since remained, assisting the other rebels in outfitting their base, and also stepping up his training as a Padawan, such that he might prove to be a useful member of any Jedi expeditionary teams in the future, rather than being a liability.
As with many among the Jedi, Aslyn is calm, often serious, but possessed of an extremely dry sense of humour often drawn from observations of both himself and the world around him, which he considers (as he often muses) 'reflexively chaotic', but is careful not to allow this to distract him when pursuing his studies, which he is dedicated to. However, he does find it appropriate to inject an ironic or perhaps even sarcastic comment into more serious moments, believing it better to try and diffuse existing tensions and thus not have to witness the explosions that might otherwise occur.
He is, however, an extremely studious individual, and as such, can often be found engaged in his training or even just spending hours at a time reading, and on several occasions has been forced to take a break in order to eat (although this is never true for sleep, since he sometimes achieves that merely by studying at his desk), since he sometimes tends to neglect his own personal routine in order to focus on his work. Since the Jedi Purge, he has shifted more towards the belief that the remaining survivors have to work three times as hard to preserve the legacy of their deceased brethren, and this he feels is best achieved by excelling as Jedi so that the traditions and teachings never truly die out.
Although he can be fairly reserved, enjoying the tranquility of silence, he is also fairly assertive at times, and never hesitates to make a comment or venture an opinion when he feels it is appropriate to do so, since he doesn't feel anything is achieved through restraint of knowledge. That noted, within many conversations he simply tends to sit back and observe rather than actively participate, feeling that it is better to be neutral under such circumstances, such that one can maintain a sense of objectivity, which he has always seen as the foremost methodology of the Order, despite the more forward-thinking policies possessed by some of the others.
However, he can be somewhat negative around others, particularly when studying. Although he prefers to maintain a more positive attitude when possible, he does not like to be disturbed when he is working, and has a certain disdain for what he considers 'pointless frivolities' when there are more serious matters to be attended to - and, as such, does not like to delay for tangents and disapproves of practical jokes and the like when played at moments best reserved for study or contemplation. He does have a tendency to be rather acerbic in expressing this, and as such, can occasionally be as uptight and aloof as his posture sometimes makes him appear.

Although he is studious and can often be seen consulting a datapad or browsing through archival records, Aslyn does not tend towards keeping many possessions, so he doesn't own many dedicated holobooks, nor have a personal library of his own. The same extends to all of the other objects that he might otherwise have: he carries a green training lightsaber that he was given when reaching the age of thirteen, and also has the components for a half-constructed weapon that he was working on when Sanctum was attacked. During the battle, he switched the power core and emitter from his under-construction weapon to his training lightsaber, allowing it to work as a fully-functional weapon, rather than as a training tool. Following the battle, he removed them and replaced them with the original components.
Beyond the lightsaber, he has several sets of Jedi robes, including one set designed to be used in inclement weather, along with breathing apparatus for situations where there is little to no oxygen (or for breathing underwater), in addition to a standard-issue commlink that he received at the Jedi Temple, as well as a well-used datapad that he uses for downloading information for his personal perusal and study. He also typically carries emergency food pellets sufficient to sustain him for a few days, along with a grappling hook and liquid cable reservoir, capable of creating a cable that extends for up to ten metres.

In keeping with typical Jedi traditions, Aslyn tends to wear normal homespun Jedi robes: a light undershirt with a heavier tunic over the top, with tabards rolling over the shoulders and extend down both the back and the front, gathered at the waist by a leather belt, upon which he carries his lightsaber, food pellets, commlink and datapad. He usually wears trousers of a contrasting colour, tucked into knee-length boots. Although prior to the Purge, he preferred to wear the light browns and tans that were fairly common in the Order, since the Purge he has taken to wearing the colours of the Corellian Jedi: emerald green tunic with black trousers and black boots. Over the top, he wears a long hooded outer robe, which is lighter in colour than the tunic.
He naturally keeps his hair short, although as a consequence of his standing within the Order, he retains the Padawan braid traditional to that rank, which usually sits on his left shoulder, though he is well aware that with the Order gone, he need not bother with it, but he maintains it more as an aesthetic choice reflective of tradition than because anyone insists that he does so. His grey eyes tend to be his most noticeable feature, since their intensity is such that they belay the calmer expression he tends to adopt as a rule.
Aslyn is naturally tall, standing at exactly 6 feet in height, but as a consequence of a fairly slender build, he does not appear particularly imposing, which suits him perfectly fine. He often has a calm presence, and as such, would consider it rather counterproductive to be in any way intimidating to others through his outward appearance. However, because of his straight and somewhat textbook posture, he can often be perceived as uptight, and as such has to force himself to relax his shoulders and general stance in order to avoid this.
