The Early Years
The harsh surface of Kuar Years ago the world of Kuar was protected and populated by the Mandalorians, a long with them came the Nagai a race of strong warrior people much like the Mandalorians they followed. But by the waning days of the Republic, the Mandalorians had all, but disappeared leaving only their culture and ways to teach the next generation. Many species of the galaxy clung to the Mandalorian way of life, combat and the honor therein was a particular axiom of the Mandalore code that journeyed the galaxy-wide. None more than the Nagai were attracted to the Mandalorian way, as a species they were brawlers, always at war with their mortal enemies the Tofs and the Jennir family was no different. The patriarch of the Jennir family Bloo, was a hardened soldier who'd been in ten campaigns in his lifetime against the Tofs. When in his final tour of duty he was grievously injured loosing limb and organ and returned home a hero for his sacrifice.
Contrary to a life lived mostly alone, a younger Briella was company among three siblings. From a young age children on her homeworld were instilled with malice of their Tof opponents. Bloo was a killer and proud of it and so he pushed on the pride in combat as been on him by his father. His two daughters were very different, while Kay was an obedient, tactician, and excellent soldier where Briella was independent, and deceptive. Bloo used that to her advantage, pushing her on a path of espionage and intelligence. Schooling for the Nagai was short-lived taught the basics of math, science, and literature, enough to have a standard education, but nothing to exceed the average. Though many like Briella wished to go on to lead academic lives they were forced into a life not their own. Briella's school graduation was like most Kuar Nagai short and solemn. The true honor was attending military academy, and to the chagrin of her parents Briella's tenure was short-lived as a soldier. She was turned over to military intelligence where her analytical mind was put to good use as a scout and spy.
Her first days in Intelligence she fought with fellow cadets, argued with superiors, and found herself disciplined on a daily basis. Under threat of being imprisoned or worse and her father disowning her Briella resigned herself to the hand she'd been dealt. Accepting of it for the time being she gained the skills necessary to be put in the field and went on to a career in the Nagai-Tof war where she experienced post traumatic stress disorder after her first tour. Her honor-bound father furious with her 'fake' derangement gave her an ultimatum. Either she continue on or leave home. Unable to cope with the stress of fighting anymore she left home and journeyed to Coruscant. There she was able to find meager employment as a waitress at a diner in the thriving political center of Coruscant. Nearby to the Senate chambers she often watched broadcasts of the meetings, enjoying seeing democracy at work, something she'd never been made privy to; her homeworld ruled by Generals.
Interests in pursuing a career beyond food service pushed Briella to return to school, though the dean of admissions at several colleges recommended her return to military service before rejecting her based on a lack of 'proper' education. Disheartened she joined a private security firm based on Coruscant, but used Republic-wide. Briella became part of a team of mercenaries that protected massive payroll sums to mining concerns of the Republic. Survival was rare and often the mercenaries were killed in the pursuit of protecting the payroll from pirates.
On a routine delivery to Sulon they came under heavy attack (Briella's first time in combat since Kuar) by Jergen Callow who had gained the inside information on the routes Briella and the others would take. Briella and her superior were captured to be bargained back to the security company for profit. Or in Briella's case entertainment for Jergen. Briella fought him and managed to get the upper hand, despite being bound, being an expert in at least one part of her training; escapism. Impressed with her display he offered her a job and Briella didn't decline for fear of her life. Under any other circumstance she would have killed the pirate and moved on, but was still suffering from the effects of her disorder. Under Callow she spent a considerable time slicing or infiltrating Black Sun affairs, to gain the upper hand on the crime syndicate's financial ventures. She was however ineffective compared to more experienced slicers and Jergen found less and less use for her as time went on, eventually discarding Briella completely. Abandoned at a small spaceport on the trader's world of Junction.
On and Off: The Diversity Alliance and Briella
Using her feminine wiles on a target On Junction she met a Kiffar named Balian who had a long reputation as a bounty hunter in the Outer Rim, but in recent years his popularity had declined among criminals due to a failing performance. Briella had once heard of his exploits before, coming from a warrior culture, the Nagai often took interest in the endeavors of hunters and assassins for entertainment. When Briella happened across him he had recently established a group of hunters, nicknamed the Diversity Alliance designed to give non-Human hunters and mercenaries more contracts to increase their credit flow, where human hunters had previous dominance with larger contracts especially those tied to the Republic. The blind Kiffar was rebuked by many however, despite still being spry, his reputation was that of a has-been. Briella helped her recruit hunters into his organization including famed Rodian hunter Rookev and mercenary Raa'kqua Ek'nav. During it's early days the Diversity Alliance had few contracts, but they were large credit sums and kept it afloat.
Briella was forced on several occasions to assume the role of a hunter due to the low number of members. Briella wasn't a physical fighter, instead she used her wits to outsmart opponents driving them into clever, yet simple traps, or playing to their weaknesses. Thus wasn't always the case, Briella suffering many wounds and beatings along the way. Some months later after one particular thrashing she spent many weeks following tentative to return, before eventually walking away from the Diversity Alliance all together. A decision not aboded by Balian who wished to see her stay after a strong friendship bond had formed. Not a few months later she returned, this time in a different capacity. The Diversity Alliance had grown in dimensions, no longer just employing mercenaries, it shifted to all manner of criminal activity, ranging from corporate espionage to gambling rings. Her return sparked an interest in corporate espionage, where physical confrontation was next to never. The attraction of the Diversity Alliance had grown among the criminal underworld and soon it gleaned attention from the Black Sun and other syndicates and not in a pleasant way. Briella was attacked while on return to Junction, becoming on of many the Diversity Alliance who fell under the jealous arm of the Black Sun. She then forced herself into nonactive duty after her condition was exacerbated by the encounter.
Working with the Diversity Alliance Many light-years away rested her homeworld of Kuar, still ravaged by the war between the Tofs and Nagai. Her father had passed and it beckoned her to return. Though he'd cast her out; she treasured her family as much as ever, the experience away only furthering her longing to return. So she departed Balian's company once more trekking across the galaxy and back to the once Mandalorian-dominated Kuar. Her return however was marred by the ire of her family. The tide of war had long changed. A handful of elder Nagai, hardened by decades of war -- Briella's father numbering amid them -- had rejoined as generals and combined with outside help from a small Republic force, the Tofs were driven back. This alteration in the face of the Nagai militia had claimed Bloo's life. This left Briella's uncle as head of the Jennir family and his disdain for Briella outweighed his compassion for her loss. After paying her respects he informed her she had to leave once more. Unable to reconcile without anything, but a grudge match Briella was inclined to escape back to her life of crime. However she was bound by Nagai honor to accept the challenge of her much elder uncle and despite a pressing fear, faced him in single combat.
Curing what ails her
As expected uncle Brom pummeled Briella without mercy. Paralyzed by her diagnosis and grieving, she did nothing, but cower. Humiliated and laden with bruises and broken bones she left Kuar, much to her own chagrin. Following this the Nagai woman spent many months staring out a viewport in awe of space, traveling and visiting occasionally with Balian who became her last family member in the years since leaving home the first time. Meanwhile on Junction the Diversity Alliance was under further attack by the Black Sun and syndicate had no qualms with letting it be known. Briella earned a culling of contracts for the organization during her trips deep into the Outer Rim, especially those of the Rodian Council of Justice who enjoyed using the Diversity Alliance over any other contractor. It did not hurt than numerous Rodian hunters compiled a fraction of the Diversity Alliance member base. Brom Jennir, Briella's sadistic Uncle
The tensions grew when the Black Sun sought to kill the leadership of the Diversity Alliance now made of representatives in the Elite Circle. Balian unable to stand for this retaliated in kind, paying out bounties for the capture of Black Sun figureheads. None what so ever we're awarded, but that didn't stop assassins and hunters from attempting. It was not long however when the Diversity Alliance was loosing favor due to losses, the Black Sun having far greater resources simply out-lasting the combine of aliens. Pressured by the others on the Circle and convinced by Briella, Balian struck an accord with the Black Sun, offering percentages of every bounty and relinquishing their Republic contracts. These loss made for startling drops in credit flow at first, but in the weeks following with no further interference and slim aid from the Black Sun business rose. Briella was offered a position on the Circle, but denied it for opportunities elsewhere. She rather enjoyed being free of tethers, continuing her travel, offering little for help, still plagued by her PTSD.
Her anxiety finally caused stress attacks, prompting her to receive medical prescription to combat the effects of her diagnosis. Now tranquilized to the issues associated with her disorder she was able to present herself actively for the Diversity Alliance. She took a role as a pseudo-hunter once more, more often aiding in the capture than going it alone. She supported herself on split commissions, and after some time was able to make adjustments on her personal ship. It was at this time that the galaxy saw the rise of the Galactic Empire. With the new contracts out on Jedi, and deserters the Alliance flourished for the time being. This might not be a lasting effect of the new order however, due to the increasing Human centric policies supported by the Emperor.
