From An Evolution in RP :: Database

Emotions are a natural part of living. As time has demonstrated, Jedi are not immune to feeling emotions. This tenet is not to say that emotion does not exist but that it ought to be set aside. Emotions must be understood first, and it is a young Jedi's duty to explore his feelings. Unless a Jedi can confront his thoughts and feelings, he will never achieve peace. Emotions, then, are not to be overcome or denied, but rather understood and dealt with. This tenet could be modified to read "Emotion cannot take away my peace."

A Jedi must be circumspect and try to understand the world that is surrounding him. That ignorance does not exist is, of course, a flat-out lie or gross misunderstanding. Ignorance is a part of life but it must not be feared. Jedi knowledge is scarce in the galaxy following the Purge, but this tenet also reminds the Knight that knowledge can be taken from the most unusual places. This tenet is what gives the Jedi his open mind and ability to accept what other beings would tend to see as unacceptable. In other words, this tenet points out that often a Jedi must use not only his rational mind but also his intuitive mind in order to ascertain the truth of a situation.

This tenet is essentially a repetition of the first. But this refers more directly to situations of extreme stress in which a Jedi might be tempted to react strongly. That a Jedi must draw his weapon only in defense is an expression of this tenet. While emotions and intuition must be understood and utilized in a Jedi's daily life, he must never act rashly. Passionate use of power leads to the dark side. A Jedi must always act with a calm hand and an even temper.

This statement reflects the cosmology of the Jedi Order. Whereas uninitiated beings see the universe as a chaotic and disconnected place, a Jedi realizes that all things are interconnected and, more importantly, interdependent. While an uninitiated being sees sorrow and tragedy in the workings of the universe, through the Force, a Jedi is able to interpret and understand even the most painful of life's events. Without this cosmology, surely the first tenets of the Jedi Code would be meaningless. After all, how could one possibly forsake love and compassion if he did not understand the truth of the universe: there is no chaos, there is harmony. Every event has a purpose. Minor inconveniences such as failure, disappointment, and disagreement are also inevitable and should be taken in stride. Jedi do not deny the fact that tragic and terrible things happen; they merely point out that tragedy is simply another part of life.

A Jedi, like many ancient feudal knights of various empires, must always be ready for death. As a warrior not only in combat but also in day-to-day life, it is easy to fail and fall. The sense of loss is often even greater for one who feels it with the Force. Death, however, is not a tragedy and is merely a part of the life cycle. Without death, life could not exist. This tenet represents a darker side of the Jedi Order, the side that accepts, indeed embraces, death, rot and corruption of corporeal forms. As such, Jedi do not fear death nor do they mourn it overmuch; a Jedi, after all, must celebrate death if he is to also celebrate life. While sources disagree on this point, it is noteworthy to point out that this tenet does not support vegetarianism among the Jedi but, some scholars argue, it does in fact support omnivorism among Jedi.

Jedi Councilor
When a Jedi Council Member vacates their seat, the council looks for an exceptional Jedi Master to fill the empty position. Presiding Council members elect prospective candidates when openings become available. In its history, the Council has accepted Knights into its ranks, but this had become more and more uncommon by the time of the Great Jedi Purge. While there are no explicit ranks among the Jedi Council (as it is, at least theoretically, a conclave of equals), there are clear centers of authority.
Some Councilors were lifetime members while the rest served limited terms, after which they stepped down and another member would be elected to the council.
Nearly all Councilors of the Republic-era Jedi Order have been missing following the Great Jedi Purge. Many are presumed to be dead.

Jedi Master
Active Characters: Juro Hasekwa, Kieran Roux, Aidan Corvai, Xi
A Jedi Knight may become a Master after successfully training a Apprentice to Jedi Knight status. Though this is the most common manner, it is not always the case. If the council sees that a Jedi Knight has become more powerful and has gained more knowledge and discipline in the Force, then they can be nominated by one or more council members to take the trials again. But this time, the trials will be more difficult. It should also be said that most Jedi Masters never became members of the Council, as it is not a requirement to be a Master. The rank can also be achieved through the performance of extraordinary deeds or self-proclamation, though the latter is extremely rare.
Many Masters fell during the Great Jedi Purge attempting to ensure the safety of other Jedi under their care. Surviving Masters are rare.

Jedi Knight
Active Characters: Redlio Passik
Disciplined, experienced Apprentices may become full-fledged Jedi once they have completed "the trials," which are usually intensified tests, physical and otherwise, of candidates' skills, knowledge, and dedication. The trials are divided into the Trial of the Flesh, the Trial of Courage, the Trial of Skill, and the Trial of Spirit. Occasionally, performing an extraordinary (usually heroic) act can earn an Apprentice Jedi Knight status. Jedi Knight is the most common rank of Jedi; hence, the title is also used, mostly by non-Jedi, to refer to any member of the order that has at least met the compulsory requirements of the Jedi Council.
While their numbers are decimated, Knights count for the greatest number of Jedi known to have survived the Purge. Many of that number are now located aboard the Haven, while others are transient pariahs, wandering the galaxy and keeping a low profile to avoid attracting attention.

Jedi Apprentice
Active Characters: Arien Kynshaer, Ytur, Aslyn Denethorn
A Jedi Apprentice, or Padawan, is an initiate who undergoes intensive one-on-one training under a Jedi Knight or Master to become a fully-fledged Jedi Knight. Races that have hair on their heads, Humans especially, grow a long braid that is cut off when they are Knighted. A Jedi traditionally had only one apprentice at a time, and was required to promote the current apprentice before taking another.
There are less surviving apprentices than there are Jedi Knights, but they nonetheless make up the second greatest quantity of Jedi to have survived the Purge. In the interest of rebuilding the Jedi Order soon enough to avoid complete obliteration, capable Jedi Knights and Masters have been permitted to take up to two apprentices at the same time.

Jedi Initiate
A Jedi Initiate is a child with Force potential. They are sometimes referred to as 'younglings', though the term is just Galactic slang for children of any sort. At a very young age, initiates were brought from their homes and assigned to a group for training. If an initiate was not chosen by a Jedi Knight to be their apprentice by thirteen years of age, they were originally placed into another, lesser role in the Jedi Services, though exceptions to this rule were known to exist. Depending on where the student's talents were, this may have been the Agricultural Corps, the Medical Corps, or the Exploration Corps.
Present-day Jedi Initiates who are placed into the Jedi Service Corps enjoy a closer relationship with the formal Order than before, taking up roles that aid in the upkeep of the Jedi temple-ship Haven, where most of the surviving Order and Service Corps now reside.

Jedi Service Corps Member
Jedi Service Corps members are Initiates or former Initiates who were not selected for further training by a Jedi Knight or Jedi Master. Their talents are instead cultivated in a more standard way, taking up training in positions that aid in the upkeep and day-to-day functioning of the Haven, such as flight crew, mechanics, shuttle pilots and more.
While less glamorous than the prestige of a Jedi Knight, the importance of the Corps to the Order as a whole is made clear early on. Members are helped to understand just how significant their role in the Order's continued existence truly is.
Haven Main Article
The Marauder-class corvette Haven is home to the remnants of the Jedi ravaged by the Jedi Purge. Serving as a mobile temple and training facility, the ship provides a safe refuge for its occupants while they attempt to resurrect their shattered Order.
While some Jedi work more closely with the Rebel Alliance and share their holdings, the majority of the Order are based on the ship, especially the younger members such as Initiates and Apprentices. The Jedi Service Corps also makes up a large number of those on-board the Haven at any given time, as they are responsible for its maintenance and day-to-day operation, as well as providing the necessary care for other Jedi residing there.
