From An Evolution in RP :: Database
This page answers some of the questions that have been asked about the Star Wars™ Evolution Simulation.
Game Play
What ERA in Star Wars is Evolution set in?
We are in the time period of the original trilogy, Episodes IV-VI. That said, we do not recognize canon here, so there was no Battle of Yavin, or Han Solo. We are an all original character based RPG/Sim.
Additionally this means you'll need to let go of some of the traditional lines of thinking you may have come to expect of Star Wars. Here Jedi relationships are permissible, traditional ranks are not necessarily applicable so be sure to check with your faction for available rankings.
Is there a limit to the number of characters I can have?
We currently do not limit the number of characters you are allowed to have, however we do require you to be active with your first for 30 days prior to applying for a second. Similarly you must be active with the second for 30 days before applying for the third, and so on.
Ok I registered, my bio was accepted, now what?
Assuming you’ve already read the back story, there are now a few options available to you. You could post your availability for hire to the major factions. You could simply begin to RP on the General Role Playing. You could also look for any open scenarios to join in the Scenario & Role Play Planning forum . More on role playing below.
From an OOC standpoint you can introduce yourself in the The Welcome Center or join in some general talk in The Hydian Way Rest Stop, or the Evolution Game Room.
Where do I go to role play?
There are several ways in which you can role play your character here. After completion of your application and upon its approval, you may begin to role play in the General Role Playing forum. This forum is In Character and a part of the fabric of the galaxy, though it is more laid back and loose than other areas of the board.
The larger tales will be played out in the Galaxy at Large forum. Stories in this forum may limit the number of participants based on factions involved, or needs for certain types of players. (IE Bounty Hunters, or Smugglers, or Jedi etc) To gain access to one of these scenarios or campaigns, contact the person or faction who started it. If you wish to set up one of your own, then post your story idea in the Scenario & RP Planning Requests forum. From there an administrator or RPG Director will either deny or approve the idea. They may also make suggestions on how to improve it in order for it to be accepted.
Do you require training for your Force users?
Not at this time, but in the future we may change that. The caveat is that as with anything, you must make it reasonable. A 17 year old Master is not going to be approved.
I've noticed you allow Sith here without the restriction of the rule of two, can I apply for a Sith?
You may apply for a Sith character only when there is an opening. You may not apply for a Sith with a 'Darth' title unless you first receive permission from Tirdarius, the leader of the Sith Order. He will bestow your 'Darth' title upon you through the course of a scenario.
Are there any restrictions on the race of your character?
The only restriction concerning race is that you must make it all reasonable. Certain races aren’t as adept at certain skills as other races are, and some races are just unable to do things physically as their counterparts from other races. For example, a Hutt can not be a fighter pilot based simply on their size. Gungans aren’t the most intelligent of characters, so making them a brain surgeon may not be the best idea. Naturally there are exceptions to most every rule, but if you want to do something with your alien character that’s not normally accepted for their species, simply write it up and submit it to an director for approval. We are accepting if nothing else.
What is god-moding?
God-moding is the posting of actions, speech, or emotions of another person’s character. It is expressly forbidden here at SWE. An example of god-moding would be carrying on a conversation between your character and another persons character all in one post. The only time this is acceptable is with the consent of the other person, and to do so you both will need to make the Moderator/Campaign Manager aware you will be performing such an action in each story in which it will occur.
Another way one can god-mode is via authoring extra ordinary feats of strength or endurance. For example, you can’t go into a room with a hundred soldiers and kill all of them single-handedly. You can’t fly your fighter through a whole squadron of enemy fighters and come through unscathed. Amazing things happen, this is understood, but no one can do the impossible, so please don’t try.
We do encourage co-operation amongst our writers though.
How do I get my characters banner included in the rotation?
We require activity in the Galaxy at Large forum to have a character banner included in our rotation. We are first and foremost a role playing/writing community and we don't want people to lose focus on that by worrying about having a custom banner being featured. The purpose of our banners is to feature our players as a sort of reward for their work.
Database
How do I use the Database?
It's not overly complicated, however our Database Team has taken the time to produce a lengthy, very detailed How-To. where most questions can be answered concerning how to use the wiki operations.
How does my bio get over to the Database?
Your bio will be transferred one of two ways, the first is you do it yourself and the second is done by a member of the Database Team. It is suggested you do this yourself to alleviate congestion in the application forum and of course for common courtesy to the Database Team, however it is not required. A member of the Database Team will post the bio in simple text form for you to edit at a later date.
If I see problem with someone else's bio can I edit?
No. No, no, no. Please do not alter anyone else's bio without the explicit consent from the writer. You must also be sure to remain within the parameters of editing as seen below.
Are there articles I can edit?
Yes, certain things are open to be edited by any member. However you must you your common sense when choosing to edit previously created entries.
Can I create new entries?
Yes you can to a certain extent. New articles for planets, species, etc are permitted so long as they are keeping with either a neutral canon (i.e. no mention of canon persons and events) or are removed from all non-SWE canon. Be aware that you cannot create planet and species out of the blue or alter previously established descriptions (i.e. you cannot make Corellia a desert world or make Hutts look human).
Can I edit details in my bio once it's been transferred over?
No, with the exception of the progressive changes (adding changes because of role-plays completed on SWE) you cannot change details once the bio has been approved by the BAC. You can add images, links, and such, but please do not make changes to the character's past.
What template do I use? And where is it?
There are several for you to choose from, designed by our teams and are available and are for use for any member. You may also alter them if you'd like.
How do I get added to the Role Call/Avatar Listing?
To be added you must request this, you CANNOT add yourself. Request in this Topic to be added or ask a member of the Database Team.
Can I summarize 'this' scenario even though I wasn't in it?
So long as the information is accurate, it is permissible to complete a scenario summary without having actually been involved.
Graphics
How do I get one of the wonderful signatures/avatars I see around SWE?
You may request one, once accepted, for your character in the Novel Graphics forum so long as you follow the guidelines located here and use the standard template found here.
Can you change this please?
The Art Team is usually more than happy to oblige a slight change to their design at your request. However remember they are doing you a favor and not required to do so.
I don't like this one, can I have another?
The Art Team takes their time and creative energy to make you a custom graphic and it is both rude and unacceptable to return their kindness with impudence. It won't be tolerated.
I need images for my database bio, who do I ask for that?
The Art Team is responsible for all manner of graphic art for SWE, including images for the Database. You may request these as well.
My character images need to be altered, what do I do?
Not all artist's are skilled enough to pull this off, however our Art staff is and often willing to help with these requests.
Wow this graphic is so great I want to use it at 'so and so board'.
Please, please do not do this. Graphics made by the SWE Art Team are made for SWE only!
Story information (IC)
When did the canon Star Wars movies take place?
There is no canon Star Wars events or characters here at SWE. Our story is an original take on the classic galaxy. Though this is understandably hard to understand, things and places like Corellia and a E-11 blaster rifle are acceptable SWE canon material, however such things like the Battle of Geonosis, Mandalorian Wars, Luke Skywalker, etc do not and did not exist in our story.
How old is the Empire?
The Galactic Empire was founded less than a year ago, at 1 ATP (After the Purge) by Edwis Josdon. So in other words it is impossible for your character to be twenty years old and been an Imperial citizen all their life.
When was the Empire formed?
After the Great Jedi Purge, when Edwis Josdon rose to power.
What was before the Empire?
Before the Empire there was the Galactic Republic ruled by the Senate.
What happened to the Senate and the Senators?
The Senate was disbanded by Edwis Josdon. Most Senators became Governors of their respective planets. Six however, nicknamed the Sinister Six became part of the Council of Moffs.
Who are the Sinister Six?
The Six senators (Ren Zuits, Sora Sone, Neshkin Emura, Tresda Florbal, Garson Ryte, and Yeryn Erall) who helped Edwis Josdon achieve power behind the scenes and escalated his rise after the Great Jedi Purge?
How were the Jedi 'purged' from this galaxy?
Most were killed in a preemptive attack on the Jedi Temple, others scattered and were hunted down. Very few have survived.
Who is Edwis Josdon?
Edwis Josdon is the Emperor and highest ranking member of the Empire. He is for lack of another title, the head honcho. Prior to that he controlled the Black Sun criminal syndicate.
Who is the Emperor?
Who leads the Empire?
The Emperor, his Imperial Majesty Edwis Josdon.
Where are the Sith?
The Sith has gone underground for the past few centuries, surfacing only recently after striking a deal with the Empire to prevent feuding between them.
Who leads the Sith?
The Sith are led by their de-facto Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Tirdarius and in part by Darth Sinis.
Where is the 'Rebellion'?
The rebellion is not yet formed, it is still scattered and working to organize. Currently it is a fledgling movement or mostly unconnected cells spread through the galaxy; the largest and most aware of which is that of Sernpidal.
What happened at Bellassa?
Bellassa was the first conflict in which the Empire encountered rebellious citizens, led by the senator of that world Rhiara D'Loroc. By battles end the Empire had won a Pyhrric victory, it marks the start of the rebel movement.
What happened to the Jedi?
Betrayed by the galaxy they'd sworn to protect, they were slaughtered when Republic troops stormed the Jedi Temple on Coruscant by the hundred. Those that escaped this fate were mostly hunted down.
What about the rest of the Jedi?
Those handful that lived are currently lending a help hand to the fledgling rebellion.
And the Jedi Council? Who leads the remaining Jedi?
Those that have managed to cross paths are lead by a new Jedi Council triumvirate of sorts.
Who leads the rebellion on Sernpidal?
They are led by Alliance High Command, comprised of the Commander-in-Chief, Minister of War, and Chief of Staff. Those position are currently filled by Poca Winniv, Rhiara D'Loroc, and RESERVED.
What is the Sanctum?
The Sanctum was a space station funded and built in secret by senator Brinton Nox for use for sheltering those who fled Imperial rule. It was a think tank of sorts to espouse ideas and bring together those like minded Imperial dissenters who knew the sins of the Empire.
What happened at the battle of the Sanctum?
Discovered by chance, a group of pirates (led by Jergen Callow) descended on the space station in full force and dealt a serious blow to the fledgling alliance, sending them fleeing from the vicious criminals. They later came to Sernpidal.
Can I create syndicate A or business B?
Sure! You are welcome to create such things so long as they are within reason and in keeping with SWE continuity and standards. In other words you can have a billion credit droid industry so long as you aren't claiming its the most profitable ever, you have more money than the Empire, or any other such grandeur.
How long does hyperspace travel take?
It is not instant, depending on the distance traveled it could take a few hours (perhaps a short jump) to a couple of days (say from the Outer Rim to Coruscant).
What is the currency here?
The standard currency is the Imperial Credit, formerly the Republic dactary or credit. They are in coin and bill form printed on precious metals and flimsi respectively, and as well the more popular credit chip is commonly used. However the credit is a Galactic Standard, accepted everywhere and represented by the Aurabesh letter Resh with two parallel lines vertically through it.
Applying
How do I apply?
To apply for a character please follow the 'How To Join SWE' welcome guide found here.
Can I be 'so and so high rank' with my first character?
Unfortunately in a position of power we'd prefer that a member with an active character prior to to that type of character is applied for. Now that's not to say a rank like Captain or Major is an impossibility for a new member, the type of rank we are talking about is beyond a standard ranks (i.e. the Grand Admiral position in the Galactic Empire).
How come I can't be a Jedi/Sith with my first character?
Because unfortunately those positions are often sought after by members and more often than not are dropped due to lack of activity, thus we must be sure the member is able to keep a character active prior to committing to a Force-user.
How long do I have to wait before I get a Jedi/Sith?
You must already have a character active for 6 consistent months before applying for a Force-user.
What is the BAC?
The BAC stands for BAC and it is a member team that reviews biographies for acceptance here at SWE. Their responsibility is to ensure all biographies meet the SWE Standards and hold true to our continuity. Their liaison is G3P0 who will convey their concerns/changes to you, the applying member. Please note the BAC is strict, not biased and no one should take their changes as personal, we all go through the system to be here.
What do the BAC look for?
They look for quality, continuity, writing ability, and a clear understanding of the rules and story here at SWE. Those not display these criteria will promptly be informed off any discrepancies.
I noticed I can edit my name, is this allowed?
That is implemented to change if you register with a different name other than your character or change your character's name for some reason before applying. You may only display your character's name and nothing else, no titles, no nicknames, etc.
Can I just jump into GaL with my new character?
If this is your first SWE character, you must first complete no less than five posts in the General Role-play forum before entering into the Galaxy at Large (GaL).
Do I have to do five General Role-Playing (GRP) posts for every new character?
No, once you have done so for your first character you are no longer required to do so with the others.
