Chapter I: Master of Puppets
From An Evolution in RP :: Database
Edwis Josdon had controlled the organization known as Black Sun for over half of his life. He'd taken over from a man he'd admired more than any man in his lifetime, more than even his own father, Cur Adri. Being born on Dathomir will cause you to view your fellow male relatives as weak with the inborn subjugation and all. When Edwis could stand no more, he snuck off the planet and onto the freighter of a Black Sun contract smuggler. He was in his early twenties. He didn't care what happened, he just didn't want to live his life like his father had, or his fathers father before him. Edwis saw himself as having more potential than being a bedmate to whatever woman chose to control him. He had visions for his future, ones that did not include being a slave. It wasn't very long until he was discovered on the freighter and he had one of two options, join the Family, or die. Naturally he signed on, what choice did he have after all. At first life was hard and less than glamorous as a member of Black Sun, he was a petty thug. His days were spent stealing credit purses or collecting extortion money from local businesses on whatever planet his boss sent him to work on. Soon however, he worked his way up the ranks, first to Agent, then to Capo, then to Vigo, and then finally, some 30 years ago he became the leader, the one referred to reverently as Prince because of his somewhat lofty bloodlines back on Dathomir, his mother had been Queen after all.
His time leading Black Sun was his whole life. He found and married a beautiful bride named Naora, but his work always managed too prove to enticing to allow his focus to slip from it and they never had children, much to her dismay.
In the place of children, Edwis instead collected credits, lots of them. He didn't care how he got them. In his years as leader he became more and more wealthy. Other crime groups existed strictly off the crumbs of Black Sun. Tenloss was weak, though they tried to put on a good front. Crimson Veil was nothing more than a few assassins who tried to strong arm local authorities for tributes. And The Exchange did little more than minor spice trading near the Core. Black Sun could have wiped them out at any time, but Edwis had bigger things on his mind. He wanted the whole galaxy.
Five years ago Edwis set up a meeting with the Senator from Byss, Yeryn Erall to try to make that dream come true. Erall was a tall and noble looking perhaps on the verge of arrogant in appearance. Edwis arranged the meeting in hopes of gaining a foothold in the Senate. The Senate, Edwis believed, would be his ticket to more power in the galaxy. If he could get a handful of them to help him out, he could gain the ultimate control of both the underworld, and the legitimate world as well. He already controlled half, now he wanted the other half too.
The meeting went well, better than Edwis had hoped. In exchange for voting how Edwis instructed, Erall was granted 5% of the spice trade profit on his planet as well as his own bodyguard provided by Black Sun. It wasn't much in terms of the fortune Edwis had, but it was sizable compared to the mere stipend a Senator received. In no time at all Erall was living a much more lavish lifestyle than he'd been accustomed too.
Other senators took notice and began to question Erall, it wasn't long before Edwis had a stable of Senators begging for similar deals. He picked and chose and came up with a total of six, counting Erall, who would serve him in the Senate. They would be his eyes and ears, and be sure legislation and government contracts were steered towards whatever he desired, namely his bank accounts.
The second one he chose was the Senator from Kuat Tresda Florbal, a 42 year old man who was not surprisingly among the more intelligent Senators. Florbal had ties to the Kuat Drive Yards, the premiere ship building company in the galaxy, any chance to have some control over that company was one Edwis was happy to seize.
Next in line was Sora Sone from the planet Ord Mantell. The planet was known for its lawlessness at times, but for the last decade it had come into the Republic under the lead of Sora’s father Bysar, a man known for his love of the Spice. He thought joining the Republic would provide aid to some of the poor so more Spice would be easily available because of the greater credit flow on the planet. Sora took over when he overdosed 2 years ago. She had originally set out to change the perception of Ord Mantell, but in due time she realized it was fruitless and instead sought out to become wealthy somehow. When the chance to go in league with Black Sun came along, she jumped at the chance. She knew better things lay ahead for the galaxy with a change in the current structure.Eriadu was the next planet to accept the offer. Garson Ryte was young and ambitious and thought he could take the world over. By accepting the offer he thought he would place himself in league with power brokers and the elite of the galaxy.
The last two to come into league with the Black Sun cartel were Bpfassh's Neshkin Emura and Annaj's Ren Zuits. Both were of typical senatorial fare in that thus far in their careers they had merely blended in and not made any significant news. Zuits however had seen the Senates failures and he truly believed in Josdon as a better leader for the future.
That was about to change. A group that would become known as the Sinister Six, was born. Some of them were there for their own advancement, some were there because they truly believed in Josdon, but all were in agreement the current version of government would bow to their wishes.
