Chapter II: The Corruption of the Senate

The signs were everywhere. For the better part of the last five years a small group of corrupt Senators had lived high and mighty compared to their fellow political representatives. The meager and humble apartments they had once endured as low level had become lavish estates in the exclusive Myrnos District of Coruscant. The tiny, barely working air cars had turned into fabulous luxury cars with personal drivers provided by Black Sun subsidiary companies. The food and drink had gone from barely suitable for consumption to a palate of extreme elegance prepared by famous chefs in private clubs and restaurants. Anyone with half an ounce of intellect could see the Senate had grown into a place of corruption and deceit. The entire senate was not corrupt, but there was a strong group who pushed through their wishes on the weaker ones.

Senator Wyn
Edwis had used the Senators on his 'payroll' to pass laws, bills, and ordinances that benefited the stable of companies he owned. He made his Senators strong arm the committees into signing contracts with even more of his companies. For the few hundred thousand credits he'd spent over the last few years from the spice contracts had brought him and Black Sun several hundred million in fake contracts and kickbacks from the legitimate government.

These signs were not lost on the collective of Senators who were still just and good, the non-corrupt. Nila Wyn, the Bakuran Senator had begun to debate the merits of looking into the source of all the new credits and luxuries these Senators had. Previous Senators had attempted to find out things, but every committee commissioned to investigate returned findings of no wrong doing. Strangely enough these same committee members would routinely find themselves either with a nice new Air Car or with a blaster bolt through their head if it seemed like they were going to report something negative about any of Josdon's crew. Nila wanted matters to be different this time. This time she planned to call on the Jedi Order. They were beyond corruption, and too strong to be killed by the average Black Sun henchmen.

The one Jedi she had come to know well in her 4 years in the Senate was Master Lorus. He was in his late fifties and had served the Jedi Council for most of his life, and Nila had a deep and abiding respect for him. She summoned him to her office and explained her beliefs about the corruption of the Senate and her fears that if it continued the state of life for most sentients in the galaxy would continue to deteriorate. Lorus consented to put together a team to trail some Senators covertly and see if any information could be gathered about their illegal activities.

Nila thought this proposition of covertness was far better than convening a committee and bringing charges against the Senators she thought corrupt, and it was probably the safer option as well. She agreed to Lorus' idea and told him to do what he needed to do.

In no time, the Jedi set to work.
