The youngest of a military family. Jag, his brother Thanes, and his mother Marylin lived comfortably on Corellia while his father was away. Jag’s mother was their most dominate parent figure since their father was constantly away with the Republic military. Marylin was a kind and fairly lenient mother. She often let the two boys get away with little more than a slight scolding. The two boys were taught decency and the value of many things, including friendships, life, right and wrong. Marylin was truly the boys moral influence in their life.
For about 4 months out of the year, Jag and Thanes’ father, Lieutenant Commander Korr Hett, would run their lives. This period of the year was much different than the carefree rest of the year. Marylin became passive in the boys’ lives while Korr took charge. Korr was strict to the point of nearly being cold to both Jag and Thanes. A military style punishment system was used by Korr along with near perfection standards. The sense of duty was driven into the two boys during anytime that was spent with their father.
When it came to schooling and sports, Jag and Thanes did quite well. Thanes did quite a bit better in school and was able to graduate early. Jag, not to be left behind did his best in school but did not see the success of his brother and could only graduate with honors instead of early. On the sports side, Jag did much better than Thanes. He was often the captain of the teams and often the key player. Despite the differing abilities both the young boys would be accepted into the Republic Commando School.
At the school both boys were prepared for the style of training they were about to receive. Korr’s strict rules while he was home served their purpose of preparing the sons for the school. The school forced their values that their mother gave them into the back of their mind so that they would follow orders without hesitation. Thanes, being a few years older graduated and entered the ranks of the republic troopers before Jag did. It would be almost 5 years before he heard from Thanes again. In that time Jag had graduated from the school and was accepted into the advacnced recon commando training program. In the commando training program, Jag excelled in the close combat training and thus would become his specialty.
During his first three years as an ARC trooper, his jobs were typical go in, sabotage this device to allow are regulars to invade. Men in his troop came and went; only four were regulars in the missions, Jag, Jacen Drak, Garen Shirv, and their leader Mav Farren. Their next mission would prove to be their last as a team. Jag was issued a DC-19. This weapon was supposed to fire a silent and invisible blast and would be perfect for the mission he and his team were about to undertake.
Final moments with the Crew
On their way to the rebel facility, the group ran into little trouble, yet Jag and his teammates had a bad feeling about the mission. It was their first strictly kill mission and the target hardly seemed worthy, only being a lesser in-commander in a small rebellious group. Landing and infiltration went as planned. Jag was in position waiting for a view of his target. Jacen and Garen were on his flanks to keep watch, while Mav was next to Jag to help as a spotter. Soon the target walked through a doorway and was ripe for the picking. Jag patiently lined up his shot. He gently pulled the trigger back and watched his target fall. Mav immediately grabbed Jags soldier and began running, alarms rang out throughout the rebel base as blaster fire soon converged on Jag’s area. Jag had been concentrating so hard on getting the kill that he hadn’t noticed that the dampeners on the weapon had failed and had alerted all the rebels in the area.
Now the situation wouldn’t be so bad if they were outside and could quickly flee to the cover of the natural vegetation, but they were inside the facility high up in the hangers rafters. Jacen was hit by blaster fire as he ran and fell to the rebels down below. The three remaining members rushed into the ventilation shafts. The shafts led the three to the outside of the base, but not out of the fire fight. They ran to the forest under fire from the rebels. A sniper hit Garen clean in the back of the head killing him instantly, while Jag and Mav made it into the relative safety of the forest. In the forest it was revealed that Mav had taken a blaster bolt to the lower chest just missing his lung.
They continued on toward to extraction zone and finally made it out. Looking out over the canopy, Jag saw explosions and blaster fire over near the rebel facility. The Republic troops were assaulting the place. After a small comment on what he saw, Mav looked straight at him and told him the truth about the mission they had just done. It was a mission with to kill two things with on stone. The first was to show that anyone conceiving an uprising, no matter where they are, they will not be tolerated, and the second was to create a distraction so that their main forces would be pursuing us while our main forces invaded. Jag did not question Mav’s motives for not telling the team earlier, for it was not a soldier’s duty to question why, but to do and die.
Once back on their home ship, Mav was promoted out of the unit and Jag was promoted to captain. After the ceremonies for the fallen soldiers, Jag was contacted by his superiors. In the meeting with his superiors he was told that his unit was not going to be reformed and that he was to take on a new role as a special ops agent. Upon accepting this job, Jag was told everything that it would entail. He would essentially be an undercover agent for the Republic. None of his equipment would have any Republic markings. He was given a custom freighter and told to make a list of other equipment that he would require. After receiving his equipment he set out.
During this phase of his life he did many things that a normal soldier would not be required to do, not all were legal and many left scars on his life. He had many faces aswell. He particpated in fighting rings, performed jobs for enemies of the Republic all to get close to his mark that he was ordered to eliminate by the Republic. Jagre walked a very thin line since the republic did not recgnize his place in the military he was to be held accountable for any crimes he commited if he was caught by local authorities not in league with the Republic.
For the next four years of his life he would meet an anonymous contact, every couple of months, to be given his orders. He found his new career path much more difficult since nearly all his missions were solo. Regardless, Jag found success. He received credits and bonuses much like an actual mercenary and continued to upgrade his freighter and even commission some very expensive armor and two custom built DC-17s. Nearly everything issued by the Republic would be modified by him.
Three years into his black ops work, Jag was waiting on Corellia for his next orders. He took this time to read the local paper and to catch up on some news. He read over the various sports scores and other non-depressing articles, but a name caught his eye, Korr. Jag had just learned that his father was killed during a Rebel ambush on his ship. He mourned his father’s death and wished to go to his mothers, but before he could do that his contact appeared with his mission. Jag went off to complete the mission. The mission took almost three months to complete, far longer than a typical mission of his. While traveling to the planet where his next contact would be, he was “captured” by a Venerator class Star Destroyer. This had been a normal occurrence and was the only way he was allowed direct contact with most Republic personnel. During his time on the VSD he was re-supplied and given his custom commissioned armor and DC-17s. While waiting on the ship he received news that during a skirmish with a minor criminal organization from the outer rim, Thanes was shot, and killed by one of the criminals. Jag was horrified by this news. It shook the very foundations that he had lived on. Both his father and brother were now gone, and his mother was left alone.
Jag’s position now made it impossible for him to actually return home to his mother. Missions continue to come to Jag, of the next several years and he did them like a good soldier. The deaths of nearly all his family continued to weigh on his mind as his jobs became more and more inhumane. His last job as a black Ops agent came nearly four months before the formation of the Empire. The job had him assassinate two rebel supporters leaving only their child alive. It was acts like those that have driven Jag to drink. With the formation of the Empire, Jag was re-deployed and promoted through the ranks to Colonel, for his work in the Black Ops. Under his command he now had several units of commandos, a brigade of troops, and 2 highly trained troopers as bodyguards. Jag had already decided that he would lead these troops by example. When they were in the trenches fighting, he would be there too. This line of thinking was frowned upon by his superiors as reckless. To his troops, it showed that he was one of them and allowed them to greatly respect him and rally behind him. In time he feels that his brigade will be successful and silence those opposed to him being on the battlefield.
Jag still carried his DC-17s, only now they have krayt pearl grips replacing the original grips. His other weapons still see use even if it is just target practice. His BARC speeder gets put to use when he is out with the cavalry unit in his brigade and his freighter has been upgraded to be a bit more of a luxurious personal shuttle. Jag still is uneasy with the way the new Empire is headed, but he is far to smart to open his mouth and say anything.
