Personality
With a personality that could be defined as diverse, Jason is cold and calculating with a serious face to match it; The compassionate and caring side, stroked with education and emotion, can create an interesting situation Truly a serious man with a softer side, his laugh betrays his off colour eyes which seem to set a look of permanent determination on his face. While certain of his propensity to better his skills as a pilot, he has an edge that is not normally seen for a son of a noble. With a penchant for extreme adrenaline rushes, Jason has found himself more then once in a situation that could only be avoided by wits.
With a strong conviction of responsibility and duty to his upbringing and the status that his family has, he feels torn between the bonds of family and his desire to control his own destiny in a cockpit, Jason often feels like a clashing of swords is ongoing within. Often prone to rash decisions in regards to family and those he cares for, his skills as a pilot are pushed to the limit, sometimes only just bringing him out of the cauldron and into safety. With pushing himself to the limit day in and day out, his personal life rarely takes a front seat to his duty as an Imperial. With a hope for something more then just duty in his life, he longs for more then just affection and companionship, he longs for a challenge to what he holds as normal and for a change to his barrel-roll maneuvers, in and out of the cockpit.
With a medium tolerance for alcohol, he is a stringent adherent to tradition, to a beat deemed deep by pilot standards. Unwilling to touch alcohol within 24 hours of flying anything, he is a stringent practitioner of attention to detail, sometimes taking almost an hour going over his fighter before departing.
With a upbringing that of higher culture, he has found himself being more judging as the years gone by, his natural uneasiness of those of a lower stature then him transitioning into a extreme, yet slight, superiority complex. As a result of his nobility and the planet he grew up on, his view on Aliens is one that is an increasingly common sight. The Human Doctrines, introduced to him as the Empire began to form, naturally agreed with his belief in natural selection. They were the most common race in the galaxy, and as such, were superior then all others.
History
Jason Blaas was born on Brentaal IV 24 years before the Purge to a noble family who were the holders of the direction of the Inter-System Trade Guild, headquartered on the planet. His father, Viscount Nalis Blaas, was a brilliant pilot of Noble blood who rose from a low-level status within the Guild to the high standing Nalis enjoys today. His mother, Baroness Rachel Olaji-Blaas, was a member of the Olaji family on Brentaal IV, a minor noble family interested in the economic standing of the planet. At Jason’s birth, he was given the title of “Baron” as was customary of the Blaas noble family when the first son of a Viscount was born.
Jason’s life was littered with various things that would shape him into what he was today – a remarkable pilot would could fly rings around pilots with more experience then him. He did it all on pure talent. Jason became interested in flying after witnessing his father test-flight a new type of Starfighter that the Guild had purchased to help protect it’s convoys. He was 9 when this occurred, and from that point on – flying became an endless obsession, one that he would live, breath, eat, and dream of. This period of his life, the extreme amount of obsession that Jason became engulfed in, helped shape the type of student he would be, in secondary school, at the academy, and after gaining his commission.
At the age of 12, Jason began to take private lessons on how to fly starfighters from his father at the urging of his mother. His father thought that Jason should be older before learning the exact and meticulous ways of piloting. His mother, an optimist, thought otherwise. The first starfighter that Jason ever flew was a Z-95 Headhunter, and it would be this very Headhunter that Jason would dutifully maintain every night until he left for the Academy, 6 years after his first flight.
At the age of 14, Jason entered secondary school, and began the grueling journey through secondary education. He excelled at the subjects that directly related to flying starfighters, but had to push himself to excel in the subjects that were in no way related to piloting. Each day, he would return home from school, bag slung across his shoulder, and go to his room, to study for 4 hours before it would be time for the evening meal, at which time he would revel his parents with the rundown on the activities Jason had partaken in, and what he planned to do over the weekend, the only real time he could fly because of school. After the evening meal, Jason would return to his room and study for a few more hours before venturing out to the large hangar on the estate’s grounds – where his Z-95 Headhunter, nicknamed “Draiya”, was kept. He would then wash, do regular maintenance, and study the lines and other details of the starfighter for 3 hours, before returning to his room and completing the final parts of his homework before heading to bed.
4 years later, Jason felt the glory of his long hours of dedication finally bear down upon his shoulders. He graduated at the top of his class, and because of his piloting ability, had been offered the chance of a lifetime – a slot at the Republic Defence Academy on Carida. He was going to attend the Academy’s starfighter piloting school. His hopes and dreams had come true, and his parents were extremely proud of him.
Shipping out from Brentaal IV, Jason arrived on Carida and attacked anything that was thrown at him with the dedication he showed in secondary school – dedicated to the end. 4 years after entering the academy, Jason was commissioned into the Republic Navy’s Starfighter Corps, at the rank of Second Lieutenant. He was stationed on a Venator-class Star Destroyer, flying the Eta-2 Actis-class Light Interceptor. 3 years would pass until the Empire would be formed by Edwis Josdon, and the Republic was reformed into the Empire. It was at this time, that Jason was transferred out of the Silter Squadron where he was serving as a Flight Leader at the rank of Captain, to the newly reformed Carida Star Academy, being taught to fly the Sienar Fleet System’s Twin Ion Engine Fighter (otherwise known as TIE). Graduating from the training at the top of his class one year later, Jason was promoted to Major and detailed to the Glory as the CAG officer in charge of all the starfighter squadrons assigned to the Imperial ship.
The Glory, one of the finest ships in the Imperial fleet, was dispatched to the space around Bellassa. Tasked with the retrieval of the surviving members of Crusader Squadron, Jason personally took command of the mission. Piloting a Sentinel-class Landing Craft to the surface and bringing a platoon of Stormtroopers, the rescue mission went as planned, and retrieved the surviving members. Returning to the Glory, Jason received news that he was going to be rebuilding the Crusaders.
Beginning the process of rebuilding the fighter squadron, news of issues back on Brentaal IVbegan to weigh heavily on his mind. With pleas from his mother to return home to help his father, Jason resigned his commission in the Starfighter Corps of the Imperial Navy and returned home to Brentaal. Arriving back on Brentaal as a civilian was something that he never thought he’d be doing… but he had a sense of duty to come back and help his father.
Rumours of the impending return of the Baron son of the Viscount Blaas seemed to pierce through the nighttime air of the arid planet. As he made his way through the pedestrian traffic in Cormond, Jason could feel the eyes upon him. It seemed the situation was worse then he had thought.
With the situation coming into full control in a period of 4 tedious and intense months, people his love for the stars began to push back through his resolve to assist his father. Over the course of the time he was on Brentaal IV, he began fiddling with his Z-95 “Draiya” and eventually taking it up for random jaunts through the system. No matter how hard life tried… it’d never destroy his love for flying.
4 months after having arrived on Brentaal IV, Jason received a holo-message through the Guild. Grand Moff Athena Lorn, one of his former commanders, had contacted him. Her message was a simple request... to meet with her. Slightly skeptical, he knew what was going to be asked. Remembering a bit of advice she had given him a long time ago.
“It can’t hurt to entertain the notion, Jason… Entertain it and see how your emotions flow…” With his mother’s voice still ringing in his ears, his reply rapidly moved through the Holonet, finally coming to the receiver’s location.
