Character Details

Personality

Jessica’s personality is difficult and complex because of her split personality. She can be the Navy Trooper she was before she became an Army Officer the first moment, but she can change in the the ice cold, arrogant, almost heartless vixen she became after the 'brainwash' in less than a second.

When she’s off-duty, you will mostly find her as the friendly, caring Jessica she used to be when she was still an Officer in the Republic Navy. You’ll find her either in her quarters, reading a holo novel, in a bar for a drink, or shopping if she isn’t wearing the Olive Green Officer Armor.. You wouldn’t even believe a woman like her would be capable of being a hard Army Colonel if you’d meet her...

Aside from a fear for Trandoshan, something she still can’t explain, she is kind and open hearted to most Alien races. She only has a strong dislike for female Lethan Twi’leks, because they are whoring up the entire galaxy in her eyes, disgracing the entire female gender by doing so.

There’s only one thing that affected her actions when she was still a Republic Naval Officer... Corellian Cheesecake. Something she almost loved more than life itself. She still loves it, but it’s highly unlikely she’d loot a store when she’s on duty, just to get her beloved cheesecake.

And then we have the Jessica while she’s on duty. Or rather... Colonel Karren while she’s on duty. Ice cold, arrogant, bitchy, heartless... those are the best words to describe the Colonel while she’s wearing the feared olive green officer armor. Following her orders to the letter, not caring about the amount of innocent civilians, hostile forces, or her own troops that die while doing so. The only thing that matters to her is the Empire... the preservation of the new order.

And the heartless, almost insane things she has to do to achieve it doesn’t even matters to her. Humans, aliens... everything becomes the same in her eyes... replaceable things. Even her own life becomes replaceable to her. Everything to furfill the almost insane desire to preserve the new order.

And maybe the craziest thing about her is her prisoner policy. Colonel Karren doesn’t takes prisoners unless ordered to do so. Enemies of the new order should pay the ultimate price for their treason in her eyes. Death...

The first years

Jessica was born 26 years before the Purge, as the daughter of Leander Karren. Her mother died during childbirth, and Leander never mentioned her. Leander always blamed the young Jessica for the death of his wife, but the young Jessica was way too young to realise her father’s grief.

The first years were hard indeed. If she wanted something, she had to work for it. She would still have that mentality 27 years later, using it on the troops under her command.

But despite her father’s coldness towards her, she loved him with all her heart. As far as she knew everyone got treated by his or her parents like that, so she didn’t knew any better. Although she’d dislike him for it later, when she started her Republic career, the current Soldier in her is grateful for the way he used to treat her.

Primary School

During Primary School, Jessica started noticing the love most parents had for their child, and the way they raised their children. She grew an immediate dislike of all the spoiled brats that roamed the streets and Primary School of Deeja Peak. Despite her hostile attitude, that would later evolve in the split personality of Colonel Karren, she soon was accepted by most students in her class.

High School

High School went exactly the same way... Jessica’s hostile attitude just got worse because she realised what she missed all those years, and became jealous of her classmates. Although she got accepted into the group after a few months, the jealous attitude remained. Why did they had a mother and she didn’t? Why did they had a father that loved them and she didn’t? Was she that different?

All the confusion eventually ended up as a desire to become the best student. To prove she wasn’t different than all the other students and that she deserved to be loved as well. Everything to give a desperate scream of attention that, in the end, wasn’t heard by her father.

Republic Academy

After graduating from High School, the hostile and jealous attitude slowly disappeared, locking the woman that would eventually become Major Karren away for a long time. The desire to prove herself to the man she loved stayed though. Jessica learned of the Republic fame, and she wanted to sign up for the Republic Academy in another desperate attempt to prove herself.

But she snapped the moment she packed her bags and told her father she’d leave for the Academy on Coruscant. To her big surprise, he never even looked up from the holonovel he was reading. He just waved her off, and muttered something sounding like “Good riddance” She stormed out of the house with her duffelbags on her back and tears in her eyes. Although the love she had for him became only stronger... just as the ambitious will to prove herself to him.

She left to Coruscant with the other hopeful youths of Naboo that night, and never had any contact with her father again...

The Republic Academy was different than she expected it to be. It was tough, and not much of the fame could be seen there. Knowing the Army was way out of her league, she signed on for the Navy.

That training turned out to be hard as well... harder than she expected it to be. But now she didn’t had the hostile attitude anymore, she finally became popular... for the first time in her life. And she loved it. She got friends, a boyfriend, and the things she never got when she was young... love. Except from the man she wanted to love her... her father. He ignored her the day she left for the Republic Academy, and it started to really get to her now.

Her boyfriend told her time after time her father wasn’t worth her and that he was a jerk, but Jessica just couldn’t let it go. She remembered how much parents loved their children, and she still wanted to know how it was to be loved by her father. She would get his love... even if it would be the last thing she ever did...

Graduation

The day Jessica graduated... the training had been long and especially very, very hard. Most students looked forwards to the day they would get their assignments. But Jessica didn’t... and her boyfriend, Daniel, knew why. She’d sent a datapad message to her father telling the date and time of the graduation. And she asked, no... almost begged if he wanted to come. She told Daniel countless times he’d be there because he loved her... although she became more nervous after the big day became closer.

When the big day finally came, Jessica was so nervous she was shaking like a spice-addict that just had an overdose. After a lot of talking and promises from Daniel her father would be there, she finally got enough guts to leave the barracks to go to the big hall where the guests, instructors, students and graduates were waiting to begin. When the Academy Commander called her name to step forwards, she got the biggest disappointment of her life. Although everyone clapped when she took the datapad containing a letter and her transfer orders, the man she wanted to clap wasn’t there... her father never took the effort to come to Coruscant to congratulate his only daughter... if he even took the effort to read the datapad message she’d sent him...

The only thing that cheered her up a little was when she heard Daniel was assigned to the same ship as her... the Venator-class Star Destroyer Chaos. The rest of the graduation party wasn’t very interesting to her. Just graduates talking to their parents, other students and instructors. Although she tried to stay polite, the disappointment of her father not even showing up on her graduation party threw her in a depression that didn’t really improved her charisma.

Some of the instructors knew of Jessica’s parental problem, and steered around her, knowing it was best to just leave her alone for the time being. The other students and graduates just had to look at her face to knew she wanted to be left alone, and made the wise choice to do so. Although some of the students still tried to congratulate her and chat with her... an effort that was rewarded with a small nod and being completely ignored.

She eventually retreated to the Academy gardens to regain her senses a little. Daniel eventually noticed she wasn’t in the big hall anymore, and started searching for her. He found her on her favourite spot... lying in the grass next to the statue of the Academy Commander, watching the stars and the two Venator-class Star Destroyers Chaos and Victory that could be seen because of the clear night.

Daniel and Jessica talked there, and he somehow knew to cheer Jessica up, because she could be seen in the big hall again an hour later, laughing and enjoying herself like all the other people in there. It is unknown if something happened between Daniel and Jessica, but she totally forgot about her father the rest of the evening.

Republic Career

Jessica got the rank of Ensign right after she graduated. She actually hoped her father would be impressed, but he didn’t showed any interest in her progress... as usual. But her love for her father became bigger and bigger, just as the almost insane desire to make her father proud.

She was surprised the life aboard the Chaos was a lot easier than she expected it to be. At least... the first few days. The Captain was friendly, just as the other officers, and they were assigned to quarters they had to share with two others. An improvement in comparison to the Academy, were they slept with twelve people in one barrack.

Although they didn’t had anything to complain about, the important tasks and responsibilities they got kept Jessica away from Daniel, resulting in their relationship slowly coming to a halt. The two “lovebirds” eventually came to the conclusion the relationship wouldn’t work on the ship, and they made the tough decision to demote themselves to “close friends”.

Not that Jessica really cared. The first few days were hard, that’s true, but the desire to make her father proud made her forget about Daniel eventually, as she tried to do as much work as she could.

Promotions

Her hard working didn’t went unrewarded though, and Ensign Karren soon got a promotion to Sub-Lieutenant. It inflated the ego that would be part of her Major Karren personality later, but she didn’t realised it. She was just too happy about her promotion. A new datapad message went to her father, to inform him of the happy news. But this message, like all others, didn’t got answered.

But Jessica, with her new responsibilities and tasks that she accepted with a smile, didn’t cared about it much. Okay, she’d shed a tear about it, but she simply didn’t had enough time to really care about her father’s behaviour... there was so much work to do aboard the ship...

The real stress still had to come.

It was during the skirmishes the Chaos had with Pirates. Jessica still remembers it. She was sleeping at the time of the worst attack, and thrown back into reality by the alarms of the ship. She first thought it was another drill, but when she arrived on the corridor (in full gear) she discovered it was no drill because of the nervous, yet serious way people were acting.

She arrived at her post, the left turbolaser turrets, a few minutes later. She thought everything was going normally. Enlisted crewmembers were running through the deck with canisters of Tibanna gas, gunners were firing their turrets...

Until it happened... a lucky shot from the enemy (Jessica still didn’t knew who or what they were fighting) hit a turbolaser cannon. She took a few steps back herself, and turned her back to the turret to keep commanding the other gunners. At least... she wanted to... she didn’t suspected the gunner and the loader to survive the explosion, but she suddenly saw the loader lying between the flames, moving softly.

She hesitated for a moment. The tibanna gas left in the turret could explode any minute, killing her in the process... but if she didn’t helped the man he’d die... in a wave of ‘Dad will surely be proud of me’ she ran towards the man, hoping she’d manage to pull him out of the flames alive. She felt the flames lick her legs, but she managed to reach the man in time.

The man would’ve died if she didn’t helped him... and she scarred herself as well in the process... sure, it wasn’t anything bacta couldn’t heal. But the fact she risked her own life amazed the Captain and Command, and she soon got her second promotion... Lieutenant.

Unlocking the ice queen

Although she was promoted again, Jessica wasn’t really happy. She’d sent her father another datapad message, but it turned out to be a waste of time to write one. She did got a message from him, but the only thing he said in the message was that he didn’t had a daughter, and if she please wanted to stop harrassing him.

That emotionally broke Jessica. A feeling that got only worse when Daniel told her that very evening he’d leave for the Venator-class Star Destroyed Victory, because that would be better for their careers... they needed Engineers because almost their entire Engineering Deaprtment got killed after encountering pirates, and the Chaos was the only vessel in the area that could deliver them the required engineers.

And the fact the only person that really loved her on a personal level left as well made her snap... again. The split personality she’d locked away many years ago broke free, and she told him she never wanted to see him again with words that would make even the hardest Gamorrean dock worker blush. And he did... that was the end if the relationship. Although they’d ended it a couple of years ago, they never stopped loving each other. But from that moment Jessica felt he was really gone.

From that moment, the woman who would later be known as “Major Karren” took over. The friendly behaviour of Jessica disappeared, and got replaced by an ice cold vixen that did her job with ruthless efficiency. And she expected others to do it as well...

Although she lost much popularity among the ships crew, their work slowly became more efficient as well, because of the Lieutenant that kept pushing them to either do their jobs better or to resign and let more capable hands do the job.

This went on for years, and she eventually got her last promotion to Commander... seven months before Josdon started running the show...

The Army

It happened a few months after Josdon took over... Commander Jessica Karren, now serving the Imperial Navy, got a datapad message during an RnR, containing the orders to go to Coruscant as soon as possible. And she did...

When she arrived at Coruscant, she was taken to a classified location, where a high-ranking officer gave her a choice. They had learned of her ruthless efficiency and tactics, and wanted to get her into the Imperial Army. Jessica didn’t wanted to first, but the look in the officer’s eyes gave her a bad feeling. So she knew his “Saying no won’t be a problem either” would have some bad consequences for her career.

So she accepted the offer... and the last thing anyone ever heard of her was her transportation to a location were she was trained to become a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Imperial Army...
