In-Character Biography
Childhood and Jedi Beginnings 25-20 BtP
Born to an unspectacular life on the planet Aldivy, Kieran none the less remembers the few years he spent there as among his happiest. His father ran a small garage, fixing load lifters, farm machines, and even household appliances, just as long as he could make money to take care of his family. His mother stayed at home with their three children, even though home was in the area above the garage. It was a simple existence and one that Kieran doesn't remember completely. He does remember playing with his younger sister, Mira, and his older brother Sean. Garin and Morgan wanted nothing but the best for their children, and both worked very hard to make that possible. Sean, six years older then Kieran, went to the best school on planet which, being Aldivy, wasn't saying much, but it would allow him, his parents hoped, to attend a better school off world. Kieran, on the other hand, was perfectly content doting on his little sister and playing with the machine parts in the garage.
On one such occasion, when the young boy was showing his two year old sister the finer points of the imaginary part he came up with from some burned out hunk of metal, three sentients in cloaks came to the garage to hire Kieran's father to assist in repairing their ship. The young boy quickly began to feel uncomfortable, standing in the garage covered in grease with his sister in his arms, being looked at by the cloaked people. Two were human, a man and woman, and the other was a Zabrak, although Kieran didn't recognize the race at the time. The two children were quickly ushered upstairs, and Kieran helped Mira build with blocks with his parents talked with the strangers.
He sensed something different when his mother returned, giving the boy a kiss on the forehead before his father came upstairs with the cloaked sentients and began explaining the situation to Kieran, as if he would truly understand what was happening. He had a gift, they told him, abilities to do wonderful things, and the cloaked sentients would take him to learn how to do those things. His parents had already agreed, knowing that the best choice for the boy to have a life off this planet was to go to the Jedi Order. Kieran, on the other hand, didn't see it that way. Being a child, all he really knew how to do to protests was cry and scream, and he did so. He wanted to stay with his baby sister, and with his brother. The young boy didn't want to leave his home, and never to come back? He couldn't understand it.
The choice had been made already, however, and it was the best one, in hindsight at least. Sean gave his brother a hug, and his parents, after prying him away from Mira, handed him his little stuffed bantha and, after the usual parental affections, watched as the female Jedi picked up the boy and walked away. The last thing Kieran remembers of his family was his brother holding his sister, and his father's arms around both Sean and Morgan, while his mother began to cry.
The ship ride to Coruscant wasn't easy for the boy, and he spent most of it huddled in his small cabin, clutching the plush he had been given, crying and hoping the ship would turn around and he could be back with his family. It didn't of course, and the Jedi were nothing but supportive, all having gone through the very same thing. By the time they reached Coruscant, the child had quieted down. It was better when he found himself placed in a youngling class. He had felt alone since he left Aldivy, but now there were children he could be friends with. The training also helped, once it began. Kieran found that studies and exercises would get his mind off things, and, as a result, he started what would be years of intense training.
The Path Of A Jedi 20-14 BtP
Kieran was no scholar, and the study at the academy wasn't much to his liking. The farmboy in him longed to leave the confines of the academy and see the galaxy. Scolded for his yearnings on a fairly regular basis, Kieran tried his best to fit in, excelling at the physical demands of the teachings, but steadily being average in the classes at the library. As the years past, he slowly began to control himself more, using his training to calm his mind and concentrate on his studies.
As a youngling, Kieran was trained by the resident Jedi Weaponmaster for five years before the Jedi choose one of the other younglings to be his padawan. While Kieran's lightsaber skill set him apart from the other students at the temple, the Council had determined the youngling's master would be of a different sort. During his time without a specific Master, Kieran ‘snuck’ training from the weaponmasters by training with their padawans. Through this he continued to learn different techniques and was able to get more fluid with his forms. It was what he was best at, and what he focused on, almost exclusivly, aside from the utilization of the Force in combat. It was more out of neccessity then anything else. Kieran's strengths lay in other areas then sheer Force control, even if he didn't know exactly where yet.
The years past quickly, and Kieran found himself being molded into a Jedi warrior. His lightsaber skills were unparalled by the other younglings, and he was considered to be a possibility for the Old Gaurd. Unfortunately, he had not been chosen as a padawan by any of the masters in the Order. When he turned eleven he did what younglings that hadn't been chosen by that age did, and enslited in one of the Jedi Support Corps, choosing the Exploration Corps, being the only Support Corp having a few Jedi on staff, removing some of the disappointment at not being able to be trained as a Jedi. The apparent failure struck the boy very hard, as the memory of having to leave his family was still very much on his mind. Without becoming a Jedi, he didn't see the point in having to leave that all, and he felt a little resentful for that being the case.
The day he had finished packing his few belongings, Kieran was called to the Council Chambers. He thought it was rather odd, but once there is was made clear that the Council had determined years ago that Kieran would need to be observed. Not because they had foreseen some kind of galaxy encompassing destiny, but because of how his training had progressed. The Jedi needed skilled fighters, the Council told him, but war was a result to actions they had no plans on taking. His time as a padawan would be focused in another direction, and they hoped it would balance out his skills.
The Outer Rim Missions 14-3 BtP
His master was a man named Dakron Trakdes, a Jedi from Coruscant who spent as much time away from the planet as he could. Master Trakdes tended to defy the Council when he felt differently, but he had no objections to have Kieran as a padawan. In fact, it turned out he had watched the boy for a while and had already determined the best course of training. Immediatly after Kieran was awarded Padawan status, Master Trakdes and the boy left the Order and the Core Worlds behind, heading far into the Outer Rim.
The Ice Planet 14-13.5 BtP
Kieran was taken to the planet Polus, a frozen wasteland of snow and ice, dotted with small and scarce cities protected by heat generators. His time there, however, was not spent in the luxury of a warm room. Master Trakdes thrust the young Padawan in the very heart of the frozen world, using the harsh environment to teach the Padawan control over both the Force and his body. The training was very difficult for the young boy, who was used to the controlled environment of the Jedi Temple. Master Trakdes' lessons required his utmost attention, and Kieran had to quickly learn how to use the Force without thinking in order to survive the cold and continue his training. More often then not, Trakdes would leave the young boy out alone, or seemingly so. The Jedi Master was always close at hand should something go wrong, but Kieran was not aware of the presence of his teacher. Trakdes watched Kieran struggle, as the young boy was forced into a situation he was not prepared for, and had to face the very harsh possibility of death. The blinding snow hurled at him from blasts of wind and the temperatures far below freezing were not the Padawan's only obstacle. It was the first real time he had been forced to survive alone. At the Temple, he was always confident that he could use his skill with a lightsaber to get out of any situation, but this was a blunt reminder of that not being the case.
The young boy struggled against himself and the environment, spending many nights huddled in a small cave, forcing himself to stay awake out of fear of freezing to death. On the occasions Trakdes did return, he offered no aid to Kieran, instead continuing on with the harsh training regimen as if nothing was amiss. For months it continued: the Padawan fought to survive every night and day, and trained in the ways of the Jedi while he did so. Lifting rocks while standing on one hand, running through snow banks with stones in a pack, forcing his frigid body to move while the Jedi Master struck at him with a lightsaber, and trying to stop shivering long enough to tap into the Force. It was a test, and one that the Jedi Council would not have approved of had they known. The Padawan suffered physical hardships that could very well kill for weeks, while Trakdes forced him to use his mind and concentrate of things other then simply surviving. It was, to Kieran's knowledge, not simply do or do not, but do or die failing. Whether it was the will of the Force, or the determination of the young boy, Kieran did survive the ordeals he was put through, and it wasn't long before he found himself taken to another planet to begin the next phase of Trakdes' training.
Jedi Training 13.5-13 BtP
Kieran emerged from the snowy wastes changed. He was not longer as brash and cocky as he had been, and much of the boyish mirth that he had was gone. The Padawan was more in touch with the Force then he had ever been, and he had physically been pushed to the limit and beyond, yet somehow he had managed to survive. In that, he had earned the Jedi Master's respect. While Kieran would not have actually been killed, Trakdes watched for that reason alone, he didn't know that his safety was ensured. The Jedi Master had sensed strong survival instincts in the boy on Coruscant, and the fact that those had proven themselves was the only reason Trakdes didn't return Kieran to the Council to have the Order decide the young man's fate. The Master and his student quickly left Polus and headed to Apatros, another little known world.
It was on Apatros where Kieran was first shown how to construct a lightsaber. Under the close guidance of Trakdes, the Padawan made a training saber from a diamond and the Jedi Master began training his student more fully in the art of lightsaber combat. Kieran was already a capable swordsman, and that was one of the reasons Trakdes choose the young man. The fact that Kieran knew he was considerably better then many of the younglings was another reason, since, while it made him a dangerous opponent already, he had never faced a Jedi Master in a true test of combat prowess. That point was proven in the first training session, in which Trakdes soundly defeated his student in a matter of seconds. Kieran's form was sloppy, and he relied too much of sheer physical strength. Being a widely recognized master of Soresu, Trakdes was able to quickly maximize Kieran's flaws, and, as a result, made them abundantly clear to the young man.
Weeks past, each day spent drilling and sparring. Kieran found himself wishing to be back freezing. At least the cold, unlike Trakdes' training blade, didn't burn when it made him numb. Slowly, the Padawan began moving into a more recognizable style. Trakdes' mastery of Soresu was the perfect contrast to the young man's Djem-So, the Padawan fueling his natural aggressiveness and emotion into the form. The defensive nature of his Master's style provided Kieran with an excellent opponent to combat the offensive form the Padawan was using. As Kieran became more and more proficient with Djem-So, Trakdes began integrating other styles into the combat, forcing the Padawan to adapt and never letting him become too static. The Jedi Master also began letting the Force into the combat, pushing the Padawan to concentrate of it as well as simply the physical actions, as well as adapting some of the more philosophical aspects of being a Jedi into things Kieran could more easily understand.
For six months, the two Jedi trained, and as Kieran's combat ability grew, so did the friendship between the two. Trakdes grew to not only respect the Padawan, but also admire the young man's dedication and skill, and soon determined that the isolated training had served out it's purpose. Kieran knew how to use the Force to survive in places a lightsaber could do no good, and knew how to fight with both a saber and the Force. The Jedi Master decided that it was time to not only put those skills to use, but also immerse the young Padawan into the broader scope of skills needed to truly be called a Jedi.
A First Time For Everything 13 BtP
“ Watch your step, my young Padawan. ”
- — Jedi Master Dakron Trakdes to Padawan Kieran Roux
“ In this place, I'm not sure if you're telling me to be careful or to avoid soiling a good pair of boots... ”
- — Kieran Roux, in response.
Jablim wasn't much of planet, at least by Kieran's reckoning. Still, considering he had spent the last year in incredibly intense training, the prospect of not being forced to survive in a frozen waste land or to push his body past it's breaking point over and over was something he looked forward to. It did have it’s effect on the boy, even if he didn’t realize it at the time. They had arrived here because Trakdes was one of the few Jedi on the Outer Rim, and the only Master. There had been rumors of a growing pirate organization in the area, and Jablim was identified as a port of call for them, being largely ignored by the Republic as it was. The arrival of a Jedi Master on behalf of the Republic would go a long way to sooth the feeling of contempt that the miners had for the governmental body they paid taxes to but didn’t tend to care what happened to them. So Trakdes had finished what remained of Kieran’s training on Apatros and then he and the twelve year old left to Jablim.
The first impression Kieran got involved mud, and lots of it. He half expected Trakdes’ freighter to sink into the ground, but was reassured by the port crew that the landing pads were solid as solid could be. Somehow he didn’t completely buy that, but there was much he could really do or say to change that fact. Trakdes seemed to fit in with the people here; spacers, smugglers, miners, all people that Kieran didn’t expect to associate with as a Jedi. Somehow, though, the Jedi Master, wearing the robes of the Order and with his lightsaber visible at his belt, was able to interact with everyone, and Kieran didn’t even feel much discomfort after the brief initial surprise at having Jedi present. It served as his first real lesson, and one that the Order had never seen fit to allude to. In order to serve the people of the galaxy, Trakdes told him when they were alone for a moment, a Jedi can’t hold himself in higher regard then anyone. People can read arrogance, and react negatively to it. Kieran would need to learn to connect with people from all walks of life, because one never did know when help would come where one least expected it.
It was on Jablim where the Master and Padawan began the first of what would become many encounters with a growing crime and terrorist organization known as the Nebula Front. In this case, through Master Trakdes’ information gathering, the Republic was made aware of a small smuggling group which, unknown to even the Jedi, was supplying the Front with credits and supplies. Kieran found himself in his first firefight and, had Trakdes not been there, it would probably have been his last. The Padawan was a child still, but the normal restrictions even most criminals put on trying to kill children vanished with that child was holding a lightsaber. The arrest attempt went badly, and the Jedi soon found themselves under heavy fire.
While skilled with a lightsaber in a controlled situation, Kieran had never truly fought in a situation where his life depended on his abilities, and all of the self-confidence and ego he had maintained throughout his life in regards to his lightsaber prowess seemed to vanish. Trakdes’ blue blade flashed to life, the Master easily picking off blaster fire while using his saber and the Force to incapacitate smugglers. Kieran, on the other hand, found himself struggling. The boy was able to block the fire at first, but his inexperience made him a target, and the smugglers turned to focus fire on him, instead of the Jedi Master. It didn’t take much for Kieran, nervous and unprepared, to be quickly overwhelmed. Blaster fire began getting through his blocks and hitting his body, but, to his surprise, the shot only left bruises instead of burns, and Kieran felt himself become faster as the Force started flowing through him in amounts he had never felt before.
The boy found himself being able to hold his ground, both a result of his new found power in the Force and his Master moving to Kieran’s side, making sure that the Padawan didn’t become overwhelmed a second time. The battle didn’t last long after that, and the timely arrival of the local security force helped in that. The smugglers who didn’t need medical attention were arrested and carted off, while those that did were taken under guard to the city hospital. After that, the Jedi Master and Padawan left Jablim, returning to Apatros and continuing the intense training regimen that Trakdes put the boy through. And it continued in that fashion; missions were taken in between training, until, slowly, the training began to be easier when compared to the things they were doing off of Apatros.
Through that, Kieran’s ability in the Force, as well as his lightsaber skills, were rivaled by a growing knowledge in civil and military affairs. Trakdes wove lessons about the Force into lessons about politics, diplomacy, and tactics. As the years past, Kieran grew into the role of a Jedi, and he would soon find that in things to come his training and abilities would be tested in their entirety
A Princess and A Padawan 7 BtP
“ Arn't you a little short for a slaver? ”
- — Adella Marijse to Jedi Padawan Kieran Roux
“ Well, you're a little ugly for a princess. Get your royal ass up and let's go. ”
- — Kieran Roux, in response.
Shortly after Kieran’s eighteenth birthday, Trakdes and the Padawan returned to the Outer Rim. For five years they had pushed into the uncharted regions of space, moving from Wild Space to the Unknown Regions. They had discovered space lanes, charted new systems, and developed relations with unknown civilizations, usually convincing them to consider sending word to the Republic to open diplomatic negotiations. Kieran began to practice the art of diplomacy, although it, along with his Force power, remained secondary to his piloting and lightsaber skills. Often times, Trakdes would allow his Padawan to conduct simple diplomatic meetings alone, although Kieran's attempts at such remained under the watchful eye of the Jedi Master.
Kieran found himself fighting in more then a few conflicts against warrior peoples, and in one such battle near the edge of Wild Space, the two Jedi had been assisted by a small Republic patrol. The skirmish itself was rather small, but it was during that battle in which Kieran found himself holding a rank of ‘commander’ in the Republic armed forces. The result of that put him in charge of squadrons and even flight groups in the battles that would follow as the Jedi continued moving deeper into the unexplored places of the galaxy. He proved himself a capable leader, effective while being considerate of his pilots, but it wasn’t a position he felt entirely comfortable in. Still, his actions in a certain conflict earned him a rather rare honor, and the Padawan wore with pride the black with blue trim uniform gifted to him by the Chiss Expansionary Defense force. The reclusive Chiss regarded both Kieran and Trakdes in rather high esteem, but still did not desire to send dignitaries to the Republic. As far as the Chiss were concerned, Republic space was a very barbaric and rather unstable region of the galaxy, and they preferred to remain in their own territory, deep within the Unknown Regions. However, the struggles between the Vaagari and Ssi-ruuvi proved to be the least of the worries, at least for the Jedi.
While the Chiss were aware of threats from the various dangers in the Regions, they didn’t explain them to the two Jedi and, in the three years Trakdes and Kieran stayed in that part of space, they had come to discover rather alarming things. Traces of the Dark Side, and remnants of old places that closely resembled that of the Sith, or so Trakdes thought. Even Kieran, however, could feel the Darkness from the various places and planets they went to, as if following a trail which began to lead back to the Galaxy proper. The two Jedi made notes of their findings, and Trakdes decided to investigate further before alerting the Jedi Council, which meant that they would have to follow the trail. After a small banquet in honor of the departing honored guests from the less civilized part of the galaxy, the Jedi duo left the Unknown Regions and began tracking the trail of who ever it was delving into the teachings of the Dark Side.
However, it was an investigation that was short lived. Not long after returning to the main part of the galaxy, the two Jedi received a com message from the Republic, requesting aid in the search for a kidnapped planetary royal. Once again, Kieran found himself at odds with the Nebula Front, which had evolved from petty crimes into political, and conventional, terrorism. The Front had attacked the planet of Gallienis IV, taking the hereditary princess from her speedercade and unleashing a series of small bombings to make their presence.
Trakdes was reluctant to accept the mission, as he felt Kieran was ready to undergo the trials to become a Jedi Knight. However, it was a Jedi’s duty to serve the Republic, and Kieran was more then willing to forgo his knighting ceremony in order to do so. The two Jedi formed a plan that would play on Trakdes’ known existence and Kieran’s unknown status. While Trakdes would disrupt Front activities elsewhere to draw their eye, the young Jedi began infiltrating the group. Kieran’s piloting skills quickly got him noticed, and his cover as a displaced farmer’s son, the family farm taken over by the Republic, was one he easily slipped into. He was accepted with open arms, especially because of the re-emergence of the Jedi Master Trakdes and his fight against the Front’s major operations.
Kieran found himself placed into the ranks of the slaver branch of the Front, which suited his purposes, since it also was that branch which dealt with ransoming captives. However, unknown to Kieran, Trakdes had made a discovering that caused the Jedi Master to worry. The princess was, in actuality, safely hidden on her family’s estate in the jungle of Gallienis IV, and Kieran was on a mission to rescue a body double. Unfortunately, Trakdes had no way of communicating that fact with the young Jedi, and it would have too late even if he could, as Kieran had already begun to make his move against the Nebula Front.
Explosions rocked the slaver vessel as the detonations the young Jedi had planted in the arm’s locked went off, providing him with enough distraction to make his way to the detention area. The body double, a young woman named Adella Marijse, was reluctant to leave with Kieran, as he had taken precautions to look every part the slaver. It was the young Jedi’s lightsaber that changed her mind, ignited to ward off blaster shots as the ruse was discovered, the result of Kieran’s face being matched with the young Padawan on Jablim. The Jedi was forced to fight the way out of the detention area, and the two barely escaped the ship on a small, orbital shuttle. The slaver’s fighter escort was launched, and it was only due to Trakdes’ timely arrival with a small Republic task force that Kieran was able to reach safety with any ease. The slaver ship was captured, and the mission, although not what was initially expected, was considered a success.
In Adella, Kieran found the first woman he had ever felt drawn to, and he suspected, as the two spent an increasing amount of time together, that she felt the same way in regards to him. The young woman even left her post as a body double to follow the two Jedi on a few smaller missions when Trakdes would allow it. Unfortunately, Kieran and Adella’s time together was cut short too soon for any romance to blossom, and Master and Apprentice picked up the trail that had grown cold when they returned from the Unknown Regions.
To Be A Jedi 6 BtP
The Jedi’s query had presented himself in the form of a Dark Jedi. The Dark Sider had revealed himself by cutting down half a dozen port officials on Kamar. The appearance of the Jedi duo had caused the Dark Sider to flee, but Kieran discovered the man’s living area. Poor sketches of star paths and half drawings of artifacts littered the sides and floors of the building, all pointing to places Trakdes knew had heavy Dark Side auras. Kieran even recognized some of the sketches, crude drawings of the planets and places that the Jedi pair had seen elsewhere. It turned the possibility that they truly were hunting a Dark Jedi into reality, but gave no clues as to the man’s present location.
There was little way for the duo to track down the Dark Jedi, and after a time, the Jedi pair returned focus to keeping the peace in the Outer Rim. That was short lived, as the Dark Jedi was fully willing to track them, and wait. Trakdes left Kieran in the Outer Rim for a few days to make a quick run to Duros for a reason Kieran didn’t understand, but the young Jedi took the opportunity to meet with Adella on the small planet of Mossak. It was at that time the Dark Sider decided to strike, attacking Kieran when the Jedi was alone. The crash of lightsabers echoed through the night sky as the two battled. Kieran was a match for the Dark Sider in lightsaber combat, but the young Jedi was unprepared to deal with the onslaught of Dark Side powers. The young Jedi was able to absorb some of the energy, but any attempt to fight back was cut off as he felt the Force close around his throat, choking him into unconsciousness.
Kieran awoke to find rain drops burning his legs, restrained against the side of a mountain. The Dark Sider explained that they were on Vjun, a planet which was known for acidic rainfall. Kieran was given a choice: to surrender to the Dark Side, or be destroyed slowly. Defiant as ever, he remained silent, calling on the Force to sooth his wounds. That was, at least, until the Dark Sider launch an eruption of Force Lightning into him. Kieran tried to suck away as much energy as possible, channeling what he could into calming techniques and healing that wouldn't have been possible without his powers of absorption, but it was a losing battle. Sooner or later, he would break, and be turned into a smoking husk.
Then, Adella showed up. The young woman had arrived on Mossak just as the Dark Sider was leaving with Kieran, and had followed the ship to Vjun. Kieran’s hoarse shouts of protest fell on deaf ears as the stubborn woman opened fire on the Dark Jedi. Kieran had to watch and listen to the woman’s screams as her arms were quickly sliced off, and she was hurled to her death at the bottom of the mountain by a blast of the Force. It was at that point that something snapped in Kieran, and he felt the anger and hatred swelling in him, opening himself up to the powers of the Dark Side.
Kieran broke free of the restraints, feeling renewed power within him. Lightning erupted from his finger tips, catching the Dark Sider off guard as the power of the Dark Side crackled and hissed in it’s destructive path. Kieran called his lightsaber to him, stopping the lightning as he stood over the Dark Sider. The young man ignited his weapon, and brought it crashing down, his sole purpose to kill the person who had caused him pain and murdered the only women he had felt close to.
The blade stopped at the Dark Sider’s neck as Kieran hesitated, his mind catching up and slowly realizing the full scope of what he was about to do. It was enough pause to create an opening, and a blast of Force energy stuck Kieran in the chest, shoving him backwards. Both men rose to their feet, and the hum of the Jedi’s lightsaber was met with the snap-hiss and ruby glow of the Dark Sider’s weapon. The two commenced in another duel, with Kieran at another disadvantage. No longer did he underestimate the power of the Dark Side, but he was still in pain from Adella’s death, and confused at his previous actions. All things which the Dark Sider used to his advantage, knocking the Jedi’s weapon away as the red lightsaber slashed deep into Kieran’s shoulder, followed by the young Jedi being plucked up by the Force and slammed into the side of the mountain.
When Kieran once again became aware of his surroundings, he found himself in a hospital bed, and the familiar presence of Trakdes sitting next to him. The young Jedi was fearful of himself, afraid of what he had done, and how easily he had come close to loosing himself completely. Trakdes knew that Kieran would need to face his actions, and deal with what he had done if he was ever to truly become a Jedi. The Jedi Master also knew that it wouldn’t be easy, and that the reaction of Kieran would prove his true nature.
His shoulder had been cut to the bone, and the result of the lightning attack from the Dark Sider had caused his bones to undergo calcification. His own usage of the power had left his hands burnt and scarred, the result of untrained and unrestrained Dark Side energy. Combined with the fractured bones from being hurled into rock and the bruising around his throat from being choked, the injuries were a reminded of the destructive power of the Dark Side. And he hadn’t been able to save Adella, even using the Dark Side. He had only almost destroyed himself, and that he had done so willingly frightened Kieran. He didn’t believe he should continue on the path of the Jedi. He felt he had betrayed his teachings, the Order, and, more importantly, the Force.
Trakdes, on the other hand, was relieved at the young man’s concern, having faith that he had identified his mistakes and his weaknesses, and even though it had led to terrible things, the Jedi believed in redemption. He proposed an alternative, one which gave Kieran an option aside from running away from himself. The young Jedi would be forced to accept what he had done, and move forward; the true test of his character would be in facing the consequences and striving to atone for his failings. Reluctantly, Kieran accepted.
Months past, and Kieran slowly began to grow into a Jedi. Trakdes didn’t keep his student hidden away, but put him into situations where his strength of character and in the Force would be tested. The young Jedi dealt with crime lords and pirates, mostly alone, bringing them to face justice for their crimes. His eyes were open more to the galaxy now, having felt the Darkness within and, ultimately, rejecting it. The result was not a weakened man, but a Jedi who shouldered the responsibilities of that title with a new found dedication and devotion.
A Jedi's Conflict 5-3 BTP
Kieran continued to train under Trakdes, finding his new found outlook causing more strain on him then he could have expected. Trakdes allowed Kieran to become more and more independent, allowing the Padawan to take on missions more fitting to a Jedi Knight. Most of these were continuing against the actions of the Nebula Front, but occasionally they included diplomatic missions and the settling of conflicts between planetary bodies. While Kieran accepted and completed those missions to the best of his ability, his faith in the Jedi and the Republic had changed. He took his responsibilities very seriously, trying desperately to find reassurances that his doubts were unfounded. Unfortunately, he didn't see them. Some thing had changed in him, having truly felt loss for the first time and losing any notions that he was invulnerable. He increasingly became of the mind that the Republic was too concerned with the needs of the rich and powerful to worry about those of the people suffering on the Outer Rim. He also began to feel that the Jedi were growing stagnant, that the Order had for so long been apart of the Republic that it had lost its individuality and chosen politics over the service of the Force.
These feelings continued to mount as time passed, and Kieran's mission continued to mount in difficulty, and soon he was doing them with only light contact with his Master. It seemed, to Kieran at least, that Trakdes was content to let him continue on his own, with only a few weeks here and there for concentrated instruction. So when he was told to come to Duros to meet Trakdes, Kieran felt glad. The Jedi Master had turned into more then that, more then a mentor, but Kieran's one and only real friend. The Padawan hoped that this would be a sign of returning to old times, when they would travel the stars and do missions together, as he was growing somewhat weary of being alone.
However, when he stepped off the shuttle on one of the space stations orbiting Duros, Kieran felt his heart turn to ice. Trakdes was there to greet him, but he wasn't alone. He was there with a woman and two children, and Kieran could feel the love that radiated from them for each other. It was the Jedi Master's family, and it was one that Kieran knew had been kept secret from the Jedi Order. It was against the tenants to do so, in so far as Kieran understood them. It took a few moments, but when Trakdes' and Kieran's eyes met, both Master and Student knew instantly what the other was feeling. On the hanger deck, the Jedi Master tried to convince his student that his love wasn't wrong, that the feeling was natural and part of being sentient, but Kieran couldn't accept the explanation. He was still loyal to the Jedi Order, even with his reservations, and without much more then a simple goodbye, Kieran boarded the next shuttle to Coruscant, leaving behind his friend and Master, choosing his dedication over his loyalty to the man.
Defiance Of An Order 3 BTP
His arrival on Coruscant marked the first time Kieran had returned to the Temple in over a decade, and he couldn't deny the power that radiated from the place. He entered the Temple and found himself wandering for a few hours, returning to the places he had spent his childhood, even finding a few of his old belongings in a small storage compartment assigned to him when he had departed. It was almost like returning home, but not being recognized by any family. He had come back to the Order, but he felt so distant from it that it was hard for him to feel completely welcome. He wasn't resentful in anyway; Kieran only felt out of place separated from the more primitive and isolated areas of space he had spent most of his life.
Kieran eventually found himself before the Jedi Council and found many familiar faces from when he had stood in the same spot years before. This time, however, things were much different. He had changed drastically, and the Council members new such. Trakdes had kept them updated to his progress, and they spoke to him as they would a Jedi, not a child as it had been before. The shuttle ride from Duros had given Kieran a long time to think about his actions, past and present, and how they related to Trakdes. He had come to report that his Master had broken the laws of the Order, but instead found himself arguing for his friend. Kieran knew that had it not been for Trakdes' training and support, he would have fallen completely to the Dark Side, and that he would have been killed numerous times. The Council didn't agree however, and came to the conclusion that Trakdes' would most likely face exile, as they believed that without a family, the Jedi Master could have focused on Kieran and the young Jedi would not have given into temptation. Kieran continued to protest the spot on his friend's name but, when he realized it was futile, requested to be assigned to a new Master in light of Trakdes' removal from the Order. The Council refused that request as well, having come to the conclusion that Kieran had exhibited the necessary traits and strengths to be raised to a Jedi Knight, and allowed him to undergo the Trials.
The Trials were simple for Kieran; he had gone through much more difficult events in the recent years, and he easily passed the tests. They did cause him to search himself, and what he found was not something that the Council took well. When Kieran once again came before the Jedi Council and officially completed his Knighting Ceremony, he found himself once more engaged in discussion over the fate of Jedi Master Trakdes, and this time it shifted to the Jedi Order itself. The new Knight spoke calmly, but the words he spoke were enough to shock many of the onlookers. He made clear his ideas about the failings of the Jedi Order, and his inability to see the justification in condemning a good man for doing nothing wrong. In that moment, he felt his faith in the Jedi Order almost fail, and a very unflattering view of the Jedi Council was formed in his mind. He called them ignorant, arrogant, and blind to the galaxy around them, too focused on doing what the Republic wanted, and couldn’t see what was the right thing to do. When he left the chamber that day, he found himself being avoided by anyone who had seen the exchange, and he found himself regretting what he had done.
The Council, however, saw the promise in the young Jedi Knight along with his faults. Kieran was accepted by the Order, even if he didn't feel comfortable with that. He continued to undergo missions, but was paired with other Jedi, both to ensure his actions were that of a Jedi and to give him a feeling of solidarity with the rest of the Order. Slowly, his defiance began to fade, and Kieran continued his work with the Order, feeling that, even with its faults, it was still the best hope for the galaxy.
The Purge 0 BTP
Kieran, over the course of missions for the Order, slowly began to redeem himself in the eyes of many of the other Jedi, and he even publicly apologized to the Council for his actions. The only person that Kieran found himself not being able to convince was himself. He had spoken his mind in the Council chamber and, while it wasn't proper or the place to say what he did, they were still his thoughts, and he believed them. However, he kept himself busy with missions, trying to forget, or at least ignore, his doubts.
When the Senate passed the legislation demanding the arrest and capture of the Jedi, Kieran was unaware of it, finding himself in the midst of negotiations between two trading families. His presence did put an end to the conflict, but not in the way he expected. Drawn in by the bounty on Jedi, Kieran quickly found himself in combat with the very people he was trying to broker peace between. The Jedi Knight was forced to fight his way off station, escaping in his Actis fighter, and quickly going to the place and the person where he knew he could find guidance.
He arrived at Duros, and once again was shocked by what waited for him there. Unlike before, however, there was no love, no calm; only death. The body of his Jedi Master greeted him, along with the butchered remains of Trakdes' wife and children. Kieran felt pain and loss once again, and guilt for not being there to protect the Jedi Master who had saved his life so many times. The Jedi Knight had no choice but to leave the bodies where they lay, as whomever did the act might return and be able to hunt Kieran down, knowing he had been there. The attack had been by a foe or foes wielding a lightsaber; the wounds were enough to determine that. Trakdes' lightsaber had even been taken, leaving Kieran with nothing but the memory of his Jedi Master as he quickly made his way away from the station.
As he left, Kieran felt the pain and loss of Jedi as they were killed across the galaxy, and he knew that it would be a desperate struggle just to stay alive. While he thought the Order and Republic needed reform, the horror of what was happening was nothing he had wanted. Even the most corrupt politician didn't deserve to die, only to be replaced, and the Jedi did not deserve to be treated as criminals and killed. He pushed away his sorrow as best he could, knowing that his continued existence would take as much skill as he could muster.
On the first planet he visited, Kieran quickly changed out of his Jedi clothes, adpoting the attire of a spacer, even purchasing a blaster to wear on his hip instead of his lightsaber. After quickly stocking up on supplies, Kieran left, and continued moving from planet to planet, hiding his true nature as he searched for a suitable hiding place.
For months he continued moving, trying to avoid the newly formed Empire's agents, until he came across a small space station near Bestine IV, along the Corellian Trade Spine. Kieran found the closest thing he could to rest on the station, signing on as a mechanic, finding that the work kept him sharp. He continued to train without using the Force whenever he got the chance, knowing that slacking even for a little could mean his death. Kieran continued with the assumption that he was the last of the Jedi, knowing that undergoing any search for others would put him in great danger, and he trusted in the Force to see him through.

“ Jedi Roux, Gand should have known you would survive the purge. You are simply too stubborn to allow yourself to be killed. ”
- — Jedi Master Utaar Ruukun
Profile
Physical Description
Kieran is an athletic build, possessing, without the Force, the normal strength of a human who engages in intense regular exercise, as would be expected from someone with his combat background. He has a somewhat dark look, which is in direct contrast the essentially good-natured man underneath. With dark brown hair and piercing grey eyes, Kieran comes across with a bit of danger associated with him. His walk isn't one usually associated with a Jedi, having more of a swagger then expected. He also hides any hint of an accent, mixing Coruscanti with a few others. Occasionally, though, one can detect the faint traces of an rural accent, obtained from being born on Aldivy. Kieran does his best to hide it though, having quickly found that the drawl is hardly considered dignified.
Psychological Profile
Kieran began his Jedi career as most young Knights do; bright eyed and fully willing to lay down his life for the doctrine of the Order and the Force itself. This mindset was part of what kept him going during his harsh training, fully convinced that the trials he had to endure as part of his lessons was necessary to build him into the best Jedi he possible could be. That perspective has undergone significant changes over the years, however. His experiences, combined with his distance from the Order proper, turned a Jedi who was fully willing to do what the Order commanded into one who found himself unwilling to be at the beck and call of anyone. Kieran continued like this into the Jedi Purge, convinced that his independence would serve him best, instead of the solidarity offered by the Jedi Order.
The Purge made him transform once again. Kieran was always stubborn, and the events leading up the Purge did nothing but harden and jade him against the Order and, in truth, himself. When the Purge happened, he found himself, as far as he knew, the last of the Jedi. The death of his Master, and the loss of hundred of Jedi throughout the galaxy brought realization to him. He finally began to see that he had been thinking selfishly, only concerned about himself. It took an act of violence on a galactic scale to finally make Kieran see the correct path for himself, but since that moment, he has been trying to walk it.
A Jedi warrior, ready to give everything in defense of the Force and of the lives of innocents, Kieran Roux has grown from a boy who saw that path as the only way into a man who has realized that while battle is sometimes necessary, there are alternatives in many cases. However, he is still young, and lacks the experience in both the Force and life in general as long standing Jedi Masters. He can be brash, and occassionally arrogant, even if he is trying to keep those check. When he finds himself set on a path, it is difficult for him to break away, which is both a strength and a weakness. Even though he is more flexable to other alternatives then many Jedi, that benefit is quickly overshadowed by the fact that, more often then not, he sees his different choices as the right path and his stubbornness and ego results in him having a difficult time admitting he was wrong. There are times when he will continue following his decision through, even knowing it isn't the best one, just because he won't come to terms with making a mistake.
Reserved from time to time, Kieran also has the ability to be, in his more natural state, very charismatic and outgoing. He is still somewhat of a farmboy, with an easy way of talking and a personality that is, for the most part, easy to get along with. He maintains somewhat of his jaded outlook, but is now fully willing to try and set that aside for the benefit of not only the Jedi who still exist, but for the Rebellion and the fight against the Empire.
Styles and Skills
Kieran Roux was trained since he was a youngling, and his knowledge of Jedi ways reflects that. He faced a sharp learning curve in terms of telekinesis and using the Force externally, having to work harder then most of the other Jedi, and even now cannot use many of the advanced techniques other Jedi possess. Much of his training after leaving the Temple was focused on compensating for that weakness, and Kieran is now able to use basic Force Powers associated with the various schools without any more difficulty then other Jedi. However, prolonged usage of external manipulation leaves him tired and drained, and his abilities in that area are limited to the fundementals. He also cannot use the Force to heal others, having to rely on convential means of medication, and the only way he is able to heal himself is by going into a healing trance, taking hours for what other Jedi can heal in minutes.
His strength in the Force lies more within himself. Kieran has no trouble, aside from healing, in using the Force to affect his own body. (IE, Force Speed, Jump, ect) He also has the ability to absorb energy and use it to power the Force, giving him the power to utilize the Force more effectivly, hightening the abilities he already possesses. His energy absorption, while allowing him to be more powerful in the usage of the Force, doesn't prevent him from harm, nor does it grant him power beyond imagination. He has the ability to shunt the pain from wounds and use the Force to prevent serious bodily harm to himself but, in terms of blaster fire, he still suffers the effect of impacts. In short, while this power grants him more ability within the Force then he would normally have, Kieran would rather block with his lightsaber when possible, or evade. He has not yet mastered his absorption ability, and while it is possible new manifestations of it will arise in the future, for now he uses it as a last resort, when suffering a small injury will prevent a greater one.
Kieran is knowledgable in all the forms of lightsaber combat readily available to Jedi. However, his combat training is focused on Djem-So, which allows him to use his physical strength along with the Force as well as give him an outlit for his emotions. His knowledge in the other forms is strictly used to advance his training in Djem-So, in so far as learning how to compensate the weaknesses of his chosen Form against the others, not for usage in combat. One of the best swordsman of the Old Order, Kieran devotes much of his free time to practice and training with the forms. Even when he was forced to hide his lightsaber during the Purge, he continued to train unarmed. The usage of a lightsaber is, to Kieran, his best ability in terms of things that bind him to the Jedi Order. Even when he found himself at odds with the Council, his skill with a blade was something that no one could ignore.
His other strengths have nothing to do with the Force or, really, with the Jedi Order. Kieran is a gifted pilot and mechanic, the only real remnent of growing up in his father's garage before being taken to the Jedi. He often served as a squadron or wing commander in the numerous battles against pirates or other groups that occuried in the Outer Rim and beyond, while his Master commanded from the bridge of a capital ship. Kieran's other skills have deveopled as he has gone through life. His infiltration and confrontations with terrorist and pirate groups have given him insight into the criminal world. While not able to list off the hidden locations of pirate bases, or being on a first name basis with any powerful crime lords, his experience in this field as resulted Kieran to pass himself off as a smuggler as well as letting him see the galaxy from a perspective different then that of a Jedi, both things which served to keep him alive during the Purge.
Possessions
Lightsaber: As with most lightsabers, Kieran's was made by the Jedi personally. The metal of the weapon is Duranium, capable of withstanding a glancing blow from a lightsaber, although a direct hit will still result in the weapon's destruction. It is a dual-phase lightsaber, utilizing a switch on the hilt to shift between the various blade lengths. The power moving through the focusing crystals results in a silver-green viridian color hue. The weapon also has a pressurized grip as a safety mechanism. Aside from the actual mechanics of the weapon, Kieran has wrapped it in a black grip tape to prevent accidental dropping of the lightsaber in combat.
R2 Astromech Droid R2-B8 'Byte': Essentially the only 'being' left over from Kieran's stay in the Jedi Order, Byte is a very unusual droid. He has gone too long without a memory wipe, long enough to develop a personality of his own. Kieran often considers having the droid's memory wiped, but at the same time, he enjoys having the droid the way it is.
