Personality
Lanaan, for the most part, is very easy-going and remains neutral in the middle of any conflict she tends to find herself in. Warm and caring, with an easy smile, she is also inquisitive and has been known to stick her nose into places it didn’t belong, usually leaving her finding a creative way to get out of trouble. She has a quick-temper when riled up and there are a few causes near and dear to her heart that she would fight for if it didn’t mean immediate death, one being the reemergence of the Jedi Order and the toppling of the Empire. But as a reporter, she keeps her love of the venerable order and her hatred of the Empire, to herself for she has plenty of opportunities to uncover the shady dealings of the Sinister Six and the now disbanded Senate, especially if means she could find a way to balance out the scales a little bit more. She truly feels that the newly emerging resistance needs all the help they can get but is not willing to lose her prestige among the news corp. to truly pick a side. At least, not yet.
History
Lanaan Kutsiri never knew her parents and her aunt never told her who they were. From the time she was two days old, the small apartment in a middle-class section of Coruscant had always been her home. Darelin, a retired teacher, started to school her niece from the day she spoke her first word and young Lanaan Kutsiri was always ahead of most children her age. Her natural inquisitiveness made her eager to learn, and very extraverted, something that seemed intimidating to the other children around her. When she told her aunt she wanted to travel the galaxy, Darelin took matters into her own hands. Contacting a friend at the Holonet News Corp, she arranged an apprenticeship for Lanaan when she ten, displaying her niece’s ability to write well at a very young age. She also enrolled Lanaan in self-defense and fighting classes, telling her, ‘The galaxy is a rough place. If traveling and reporting is what you want to do, rough is what you will need to be at times.’
By the time Lanaan turned fourteen years old, she was a member of the Coruscant Holonet Junior News Corp. She was allowed to sit on Senate sessions and watch the proceedings of the galaxy, reporting on what happened there in a way that was appealing to others her age. She began to notice the change in the politics. Two years later, she wrote a small piece about her experiences that caught the eye of a few of the Coruscant’s Holonet head honchos and she was on her road to becoming one of their most valued reporters. Armed with simple assignments around Coruscant itself, Lanaan, with her aunt as her guardian, began to prove her worthiness as not only a reporter and interviewer, but as a gifted writer as well.
When Lanaan turned twenty-two, Darelin was already dying, refusing to allow her niece to help her receive any medical treatment for an illness Lanaan eventually discovered was untreatable. With strict orders from Darelin – and armed with her aunt’s entire life savings - she purchased the Whitelighter and lessons on how to fly the interstellar vehicle. Darelin wanted to make sure that Lanaan could care for herself and not have to rely on others to get her where the news was. She knew Lanaan had a gift in her storytelling and her natural inquisitiveness would surely get her in trouble. Darelin wanted to give her the best chance she could at getting out of any messes she might get into. Her dying request was simple: See the galaxy for us both and always look at both sides of the story. Lanaan found that very easy to do.
When Lanaan turned twenty-five, she was awarded the position of head field reporter and given almost carte blanche authority over what she reported. She knew the heads at Holonet wanted whatever could be dredged up about Edwis Josdon and members of the Senate, specifically Senators that seemed to be living above their means. She tried hard to live up to their expectations but when she was turned away again and again by both Senators and the Emperor’s office, she turned her focus to the emerging hostilities between resistance factions across the galaxy and the rapidly growing Imperial forces.
All it would take would be one news story where she was in the right place at the right time to reveal the secrets of both sides. Lanaan is determined to be there when it happens.
Into The Fray
And that is exactly what happens when she meets up with Tais Voru on Tatooine. Hoping to get a person on his side to tell the story of the Rebellion, Lanaan listens to the information Tais gives her. She agrees to help and finds herself getting set to leave with him to go to Sanctum, the current Rebel headquarters.
But thing go awry and they are forced to leave the cantina they were speaking in. On the way to his ship, Lanaan is given a copy of Emperor Josdon's Most Wanted List, which has not been released publicly yet. She convinces Tais to work the camera and, using her Holonet ties, she blows the wind out of the Emperor's sails and releases the list.
They leave Tatooine, and in the course of traveling to Sanctum, Lanaan gets the interview of a lifetime from Tais. She airs it, knowing that her own life is now in jeopardy as she openly supports the new rebellion. They run into her ex-lover Orix Jezlo, a movie producer, and she talks him into going to Sanctum with them in an effort to convince him to help our the Rebellion.
Of course, tension arises between Lanaan and Orix, who is jealous of her already close friendship with Tais Voru, leaving her to wonder exactly where she stands with both.
