Personality:
Lucen is kind, compassionate, and generally friendly and good natured to those around him. He is very laid back and tends to take life as it comes at him. He adapts himself to any condition he is in and accepts the people around him rather than trying to change it to fit his own personal preferences. When it comes to problems he tends to put those of others above his own. On the occasion that he has to deal with a problem of his own he is patient and lets his problems sort themselves out believing that everything works out in the end and that you have to let things run their course.
He loves to travel to far and exotic places and is one of the reasons he loves being a Jedi knight. The other thing that he enjoys is light saber duels. Lucen doesn’t so much like the idea of fighting to the death against someone but rather he enjoys friendly sparring matches against his fellow Jedi so that he can keep his skills up. When fighting he uses the style of Djem-So believing the best defense is a good offense. Often times he will get excited when fighting an opponent and tends to make mistakes due to being so willing and eager to participate in battle.
Though he will accept those around him Lucen prefers solitude mainly because he didn't have any friends as a child. When he is in the company of others he'll usually talk quite a bit though his mind wanders off at times to other thoughts that he may have. Lucen will often get lost in daydreams when he is off by himself and this usually makes it difficult for him to complete tasks efficiently while he is alone. The kasha crystal that is kept in his light saber helps him keep focused when engaged in combat so he does not have to worry about getting distracted and being killed by his opponent.
He is well liked by many groups of people because he is so friendly and easy going. When he takes the time to pay attention he is a very good listener and will often try to provide helpful advice to those that need it although Lucen isn’t great with words and will often make situations worse. Lucen has sympathy for any suffering person and will go out of his way to help people that are clearly suffering regardless of if he knows them well or not.
His views on aliens are indifferent towards aliens in general neither liking nor disliking them. Lucen feels that he should not discriminate because the one thing that he has learned in his travels is that he is an alien on other planets. Once he has deemed someone a friend or enemy they are forever thought of in that way. His views on enemies are set in stone and the same is true for his friends as well. There is only one reason why Lucen would ever cut himself off from one of his friends and that reason is if he felt betrayed or deceived.
Belongings:
Lucen’s belongings include traditional Jedi robes and tunics along with clothing for other occasions. He carries a lightsaber with him wherever he goes. The hilt is a straight silver tube with a black rubber grip and when activated the blade is about a meter long and is blue in color. Dark Blur- a VCX-700 style ship that he inherited from his master. Lucen also owns a pair of black thick framed glasses which he uses for reading.
History:
Lucen Nerezsh was born in the year 24 BTP to his parents Rhyos and Shina. His father had been a Knight in the Jedi order and fell in love with his mother Shina, who at the time was a bar maid on Coruscant. Knowing that the order would not approve of his new love Rhyos decided to quit the order so that he could have a life with Shina. Shortly after his choice to give up being a Jedi the two got married and chose to settle on Dantooine mainly because it wasn’t densely populated and the two could have some privacy. The couple made a living as simple farmers and managed to provide for themselves and have a little extra left over. About a year later they were blessed with a son.
His parents showed him plenty of love and care as a young child but he still felt lonely sometimes. Much of this was contributed to the fact that the school was so far from where their family settlement was so Lucen didn’t get a chance to interact with other children close to his age. So rather than traditional schooling it was his parents that taught him basic skills such as how to read and write. Because of this the only people he had to socialize with at a young age were his parents and while they were closer because of it he wanted more than nothing else to meet someone his own age. Since he didn’t have any friends that were around his age, Lucen spent much of his time alone and as a result developed a vivid imagination to entertain himself.
Shortly after he had turned six years old a stranger came to the Nerezsh estate. Lucen didn’t think much about it as there were people that visited his house every now and again but there was something about this particular individual that was different. He couldn’t quite tell what it was nor could he explain how he knew this man was different at the time it was just something that he felt deep down inside. The man presented himself as Melric Terrlan and the next thing Lucen knew he was being told to go play in his room so that his parents could talk with their guest. The boy did as he was instructed and for the next couple of hours just laid in his bed day dreaming and wondering what it was that his parents and the strange man were talking about.
Lucen had been right about Melric being interesting as he was the watchman for Dantooine at the time. His father had known this and had accepted the fact that it was only a matter of time before his son was discovered but Shina was not willing to give her son up to the Jedi. It took both Rhyos and Melric to convince her that Lucen would be fine and that she would be able to see him again before she finally agreed to let him go to Coruscant to see if he could be trained as a Jedi. When the three emerged from the room and went to get Lucen, he was actually hesitant to leave. They didn’t give him details about the trip he was to be taking with Melric but his father assured him that everything would be ok. The young boy having no reason to doubt his father reluctantly said that he would travel with the stranger figuring that his parents would not let him leave unless they knew that he’d be fine.
When all was settled, Melric took young Lucen along with him to the nearest spaceport informing him that he was going to travel to Coruscant to become a Jedi. After hearing this Lucen couldn't focus on the rest of what Melric told him all he could make out was that another Jedi would be meeting them and he'd take a transport from there. Lucen didn't bother remembering the Jedi's name or why Melric was going to stay on Dantooine as he was too excited with the idea of becoming a Jedi. His father had told him bed time stories of the great Jedi but he never actually thought that he'd get the opportunity to become one. Once at the spaceport he was quickly loaded into the transport and he and another Jedi departed from the planet. The trip started off fun enough considering that Lucen had never seen Dantooine from space nor had he witnessed traveling in hyperspace but he soon got bored and anxious as the journey seemed to take forever.
After the long journey the man that had been accompanying him brought him before the Jedi Council and the decided that he would be trained as a youngling. He was led to a room where he would be staying while he trained in the temple and given traditional tunics and robes to wear. That night the boy could barely sleep because of the eagerness to begin his training the following morning. Waking up he was told where he was going to be trained and given instructions on how to get there. Upon Lucen’s arrival to the training area in the temple he noticed a number of other children some of them human like him but others that weren’t. This excited Lucen because it had been the first time he was around people his own age and the first time he had ever seen someone that wasn’t a human.
At first he thought his training would be fun but over time he quickly realized that it was far from it. During his youngling training he struggled and found it difficult to concentrate on his force exercises. Because of his good imagination his mind would often wander making him lose focus while attempting to use force techniques. Lucen did not however have any troubles with lightsaber training, in fact that was the one area he excelled. The boy was in the top tier of his group when it came to dueling simply for the fact that he found it enjoyable, therefore keeping his interest and allowing him to focus on saber combat easier than force techniques. The next six years went by in a flash and all he did with his spare time was study about the force and train to become more proficient with his force techniques. It took countless days and nights for him to become somewhat proficient in the use of the force although at times he still struggled.
At the age of twelve, Lucen was chosen to be a padawan to Jedi Master Anaos Darklo. Many of the other masters did not choose him simply because they believed he was not up to the task. Their reasoning behind this belief is because while observing his training they saw that his skill with a lightsaber was exceptional but he seemed to struggle with basic force techniques. Anaos however viewed Lucen as a boy with great potential and thought that if he could get him to concentrate and increase his force skill to an adequate level than he would prove to be a great addition to the order. Lucen was to begin his training with Master Darklo right away and was eager to meet the man that would be training him. Their first meeting occurred right before they were to leave on a mission to Tattooine and was told that this training would be even tougher than what he went through as a youngling. He was asked if he would be up to the challenge and if he wasn’t he could forget about becoming a Jedi. While he found Master Darklo to be a stern individual, Lucen was determined to become a Jedi and accepted the challenge.
When Anaos had said that the training would be difficult it was an understatement. Lucen trained constantly as the two traveled through the galaxy on various missions and had almost no time to himself as all of it had to be devoted to bettering himself. Master Darklo taught him the Djem-So combat style which had been physically demanding on the young padawan but when it came to the choice between sparring with his master or being made to practice force techniques he’d pick the sparring anyday. Anaos knew that he didn’t need a lot of training with the lightsaber so he had Lucen practice various force exercises the majority of the time so that he would become a balanced warrior and tried to give him more incentive by saying until he became proficient with the force he couldn't make his own lightsaber.
During his travels with Master Darklo, Lucen listened intently whenever Anaos spoke of Jedi matters or of the force figuring that if he was taking the time to explain it then it was note worthy. He paid attention especially when there was talk about lightsaber form or construction and also different Jedi ranks. Through these talks he found out what it was that Anaos did for the order. While Lucen already knew that he was an investigator he ended up getting a very in depth description about how they uncovered crime throughout the galaxy.
On Lucen's eighteenth birthday Master Darklo told him that because he had managed to get his force abilities up to an acceptable level that he was to create his lightsaber. He was given all the materials needed to make his saber save the crystal. Anaos said that when built the rest of the saber that he would then receive instructions on where to get the crystal. Over the next month, Lucen didn't find it nearly as difficult as he thought to construct the lightsaber. The hilt assembly was similair to Master Darklo's and when he had finally completed it Anaos told him that he needed to go to Cerea and retrieve a kasha crystal to power his lightsaber. At the time Lucen had no idea why he needed that particular crystal but decided to trust his master's decision. After a couple more weeks of imbuing the crystal, Lucen set it into the hilt successfully creating his first lightsaber. When he turned on his new lightsaber for the first time he didn't see why he needed a kasha crystal and when he asked Master Darklo he was simply told that he would realize the effect in time.
Lucen proved to be more helpful on each mission with Anaos that he went on. When using his new lightsaber he felt that he could do anything and eventually learned that the kasha crystal helps the wielder to focus while engaged in combat. As the years passed by, his lightsaber skill kept continuing to increase while his force skills also improved they weren't balanced with his lightsaber skills. When he was twenty four, Anaos made a request to the council that Lucen be allowed to take the Trials of Knighthood and they agreed. Master Darklo had decided that Lucen had passed the Trial of Flesh by sacrificing all of his time for force training rather than practicing his favorite lightsaber exercises. He felt that the Trial of Courage was completed through all of the missions that the two had been on together. The final two trials were completed within a short amount of time, the first being the Trial of Skill where he had to duel against his master and the last trial completed was the Trial of Spirit in which he went through a drug induced vision.
Upon the completion of the trials, Lucen's knighting ceremony was held to officially recognize that he had ascended to the rank of Jedi Knight. The council also gave him the title of Jedi Sentinel because of his proficiency in knowledge of the force, his abilities in lightsaber combat, and the experience he had gained investigating crimes with Master Darklo. His first mission as a Jedi knight was to assist Anaos look into a rumor about dark Jedi on the planet Baroonda. The mission that the pair was assigned on the tropical planet was a trap set up by the Black Sun. The organization wanted to take revenge on Anaos and Lucen for having put away one of their crime lords during the past year. Though the duo fought valiantly against their enemies it was clear to Master Darklo that the two could not win this battle because they were vastly outnumbered. Ordering Lucen to flee, Anaos stayed behind to hold them off as long as he could so that his former pupil could escape. Not wanting to leave his master’s side Lucen was hesitant but when Anaos told him that there was no need for them both to die and that he needed someone to inform the council of what happened he ran for his master’s ship soon after.
It would seem inevitable that he would leave; Lucen didn’t know whether it was fate or just a strange coincidence that he was driven from his new home but he left to find other members of the Jedi Order shortly after the Imperial take over of Bellassa. Unable to stand idly by while the empire took over planets that did not pose a threat he now begins to search out members of the Jedi order.
