The Imperial occupation of Bellassa begins peacefully enough with Senator D`Loroc greeting the recent influx of refugees to Bellassa, among whose number are hidden several Jedi's. One in particular comes to the senator's attention, the padawan Aslyn Denethorn, who, after a lengthy discussion with the senator at her estate senses a flickering in the force of impending doom.

At the same time as the refugees are arriving to Bellassa the Empire is making plans to force Bellassa to remain a loyal member of the empire, not the neutral society that it had thus far been trying to play. To accomplish this the Empire dispatches the Minister of Propaganda and his wife, Kate Xinge to speak personally with Senator Rhiara D'Loroc.

The Xinge's manage to arrive on the heels of the Aslyn's departure from the Senators estate. Wasting no time Bishop Xinge, the Minister of Propaganda attempts to persuade the Senator that joining the Empire was the safest course for her people. When the Senator repeatedly declines the offer and sticks to her peoples chosen position of neutrality and peace, Xinge decides that the Imperials will have to use force and place the planet under martial law.

The Xinges attempt to arrest the Senator but are thwarted by the timely return of the Padawan Aslyn, who in combination with a rebel operatives, Falastur Luran and Killien Rallard, manage to grant the Senator an opportunity to escape. However Falastur is injured in the close quarters combat and was evacuated to her spy ship, leaving the Senator and Aslyn to fend for themselves.

Notorious hunter Siren Blaze arrives on Bellassa just ahead of the Imperial fleet, in search of a particular target, one which she intends to issue a warning to, rather than collect on a bounty. Meanwhile, as the battle begins to rage, the Xinge's make haste to depart the planet with the Imperial Scout Trooper, Leena Horik escorting them to the safety of their ship.

As the Imperials begin to mobilize to enforce martial law on Bellassa, many are taken by surprise, caught on the planet or in space around the peaceful planet as the Imperial Fleet begins to deploy its squadrons of Tie Fighters and troop transports. Hidden amongst these ships is on shuttle carrying a precious load, the daughter of a high ranking Naval officer who has ordered that his daughter be removed from the space battle to the surface of the planet, and hidden away there.

In the ensuing battle many lives are lost, citizens of Bellassa try to flee in waves, only to find themselves blocked by the Imperial fleet and in need of brave rebel pilots to escort them. Many answer the call, engaging the Imperials in an attempt to stave off the inevitable. The fighting was furious, with many downed ships and casualties on both sides, but in the end the Imperials were victorious.

The Glory arrives in system at the end of the fight, to find Bellassa mostly under control. Onboard the Glory, Athena Lorn tasks Jason Blaas and his squadron with the retrieval of the surviving members of the Crusader Squadron, a valiant squadron that were lost in the fighting over the capital.
