History
Pietur was born on a small planet not far from Coruscant, the fourth child and first daughter of Marie and Jatieul Legatus (Engineer and Bar-owner respectively). Her birth was followed by that of another boy just under nine years later. Growing up bearing the brunt of all the pranks and jokes five teenage male minds can come up with gave Pietur an almost 'pffft' approach to risks and an uncanny ability to weasel herself out of trouble (even if she is let to learn how to avoid getting into it). Her home, Borleias, is a small planet of almost no significence in the eyes of the galaxy, and Tradiethe is one of the smaller cities to grace its surface. The light from the scatterings of buildings fail to disguise the multitude of stars, and these became a constant source of fascination for the young girl. Her aspirations to be a pilot were only fuelled by her oldest brother Wil'yn who returned from his brief service to the Empire minus a leg but with a head full of stories that he was occasionally willing to share with a sister ten years his junior. Even when she discovered that her brother had never been in a fighter, let alone active duty, and that his missing limb was due to a dare involving several large (and heavy) crates, the discovery of the truth only made the girl more determined to experience the thrills of flight for herself.
When the time came, it took very little pleading on her behalf before she was enrolled in the Republic Flight Academy . Her sunny smile and posative approach to the trials that faced them quickly earned her friends among the other students, if not her tutors, who viewed her apparent disregard for the importance of what she was a part of as a lack of discipline. As the first year passed it quickly became apparent that no matter how great her fascination with space travel, Pietur wasn't gifted in that aspect of her life at all. A disasterous series of near-misses, non-misses, forgetfulness and what was viewed as disrespect on her half (she was just trying to cheer the instructor up!) nearly saw her expelled very early on, but she was granted (after much debate) a second chance. With her first set of exams approaching, her friends, anxious not to lose their Piet, made a pact to get her a pass. Taking turns to revise, test, drill and otherwise prepare Pietur, they somehow managed to pull her through. That trend continued for the rest of her years at the Academy. Her friends would devote hours of their time to ensuring her a pass mark, and she in turn would be there to lend a sympathetic ear and a cheering joke when the gruelling life of a cadet grew to much for them.
After graduation, Piet found herself flying in the outer rims, normally as far away from any sort of action as they could put her. She used the long stretches of inactivity to spend hours on end in a simulator, slowly improving her flying through sheer doggedness. Now she can almost pass as a decent pilot, and handles herself well in most situations, at least until she gets distracted.
Her simple lack of talent, as well as her gender, have seen her remain as a Flight Officer thus far in her career, but she has at least advanced beyond flying recon in the Outer Rim. Her first proper station was on the RSD Guile as a member of their Crusaders squadron. She got on well with the people there, quickly earning herself a reputation as both a cheerful nutcase and a shocking pilot. However, the pleasant situation didn't last long. The Guile was sabotaged from the inside, and Piet, along with her squadmate Ximun Brightsky was one of the lucky known few to escape with their lives. After nearly drowning after their shuttle crash-landed in the sea, Piet was rescued and brought aboard the ISD Glory for mediacl treatment. She and Xim are now charged with rebuilding the Crusaders from the ground up to fly from the Glory. The incident has somewhat affected Piet, who up until then had believed herself invincible. She feels some guilt over the death of so many of her friends while she managed to somehow survive, and even the joyous task of arranging a suitable punishment for Ximun after he lost a petty bet the pair had, can't keep her from becoming unusually introverted at times.
Other Character Details
Personality
Pietur has always been cheerful -almost absurdly so. Some have said that the spice her mother was fond of addled her daughter's brain before she was born. Others have said that she just doesn't have the sense to be anything else. Pietur has heard most of the theories often enough, but pays them no mind. In her view, life is like those funny pictures her favourite brother, Aubin, once showed her. It can be one thing, or another, but never both. At a young age the girl decided that if she was going to stick it out in this universe, then cheerfully was the way to do it -much to the amusement of those around her. That doesn't mean she has never experienced any other emotion, or never will. Piet has had her share of disappointment, heartbreak and bad times, but is more likely to accept the situation, deal with it, and move on as quickly as she can than to dwell on why it happened to her.Raised above a bar complete with gambling facilities, Pietur is also strongly superstitious, something she picked up from the many unsuccessful gamblers she had known. She also has a tendancy to make spontanious bets on almost anything that moves, which often sees her out of pocket.
Family
Jatieul Legatus--Jati is a cheerful man with a booming voice that belies his gentle nature. He inherited the Smugglers Cut bar from his father and has run it all his life. Borleis is his homeplanet, and he has only been off it to visit his various children on Coruscant on a few occasions, giving him a rather detatched view of the goings on in the galaxy. As long as whoever is in power leaves him to live his life, Jatieul isn't bothered about what happens to the rest of the galaxy. However, now that his daughter is 'running wild' as he calls it, right in the thick of things, he is forced to take a little more interest in what is happening around him.
Maire Legatus--The woman who most affected Piet as she was growing up, Marie is a fierce character who more often than not gets her way. When Pietur was originally denied enrollment to the Flight Academy, it was Marie who quietly talk the instructor aside for a word, after which there was no problem whatsoever. A mechanic by trade, Marie is a casual user of spice, which gives her an skewed view on life, that Piet occasionally mimics.
Wil'yn 35--When her eldest brother Wil'yn returned, minus a leg, after military service at the tender age of 20, he was treated as a war hero by the community. He would fill Pietur's head with epic tales of dog-fights amongst the stars, scuffles on the planet surface and a bloody battle to the death that left him victorious but missing a leg. Even when she found out that Wil'yn had never left Coruscant, let alone been on active duty (his leg was the result of an accident involving several large crates and a stupid dare), the tales he had told had captured her imagination. The discovery of the truth only made the girl more determined to experience the thrills for herself. Wil'yn settled down to a desk job after his return, and married Jakina, a work-mate. The couple are expecting their first child shortly -a hugely anticipated event.
Jakob 33--The next brother, Jakob, is tall and dark -his mother's colouring. Since he was a young child he has been friendly and sociable, as well as gifted with a good head for numbers. He now spends his days helping his father with the Bar's accounts and relieving punters of their money at the same establishment, using a mixture of sleight-of-hand and complex maths tricks.
Aubin, N'reus ,30--The twins were the next to be born. It was a difficult birth for both mother and children. Aubin, the oldest, was born after 13 hours hard labour with N'reus following afterwards. Born with an umbilical cord cutting off his air, N'reus was a victim of stunted growth that left him with a slight figure to set against his twins impressive stature. Both, however, share the same logical mind and wicked sense of humour (an unfortunate combination for Pietur). Aubin started a career as a body-guard, but has recently switched to training as a mechanic. N'reus is currently unemployed in Coruscant, although he has been investigated regarding his possible involvement with several crime syndicates.
Alyx,17--Alex is the baby of the family, born nine years after his sister. He's the darling of his mother (much to his disgust) and the most likely to achieve great things, according to a grandmother who had a 'vision' at his birth. At the moment he spends his days dreaming about what the future holds, and is convinced that he's destined to be a moff or a smuggler (it changes frequently)
