Personality:
Rezden Valona was a simple man born of the ashes of a much more complex man he used to be. Humility will do that to a man. Still he is ever the polite individual to those he knows and those he does not. He is not particularly outgoing, though he's never been described as shy either. When conversation finds him he's more than capable of participation, he just was never prone to seek out said conversation himself.
He was a man who has lived two very distinctive lives. The former being that of a high ranking crime lord. The latter being one of a humbled, and broken man who has lost most everything he loved. He appreciates things of a different value now. Before he cared for credits and power, now he cares for family and safety.
Belongings:
Rezden has very little left from his former life. His home on Kuat was abandoned in order to assume his new life. His former near fleet of ships conceded to the Family in his haste to depart. His bank accounts were drained by slicers whilst he was away hiding leaving him only a few thousand credits, the ship he was on, and his daughter. He has additional incidentals like an apartment under a false name on Alderaan, but nothing much of note. His ship is a simple but functional, a Soro Suub 3000. Technically it is classified as a luxury vessel though it is far more common place than the luxury vessels in which he was accustomed to traveling in his previous life. His early days as a transporter buffered his ability as a pilot, even though for a period of almost 4 years he never flew himself anywhere. The skills were not so terribly eroded though that he found himself incapable of flight. A fighter pilot though, he is not.
Over the past two years he has also begun to carry a blaster with him more often than not. In his prior existence he was relatively unarmed, choosing to employ a body guard instead to serve as protection. Now he is tasked with that endeavor himself. His skill with weaponry leaves a great deal to be desired, to say the least.
History:
There had been a time in his life when Rezden cared about very few things; Family, Honour, and Profit were the extent of his concerns. He would do anything to protect these assets, and to grow these things exponentially. His personality was a direct reflection of that desire to safeguard and expand his ever growing empire. That changed for him though when he fell in love, unfortunately it was with another man's wife. They carried on an affair for several months, she was unable to locate her husband to tell him of her love for a new man, her husbands’ absence as much to blame for this act as her own issues. She was addicted to medicinal spice from her time serving in a mercenary faction as a it's chief medical officer. Rezden, with his underworld connections, learned of her addiction and used his influence to help her, first by cutting her supply off, and then by helping to break her addiction.
For almost three weeks he stayed at her side morning, noon, and night until she had broken through the worst part of her addiction. It was because of his bedside manner during that time that she fell in love with him, though he had been in love with her long before this incident.
His earliest remembrance of her had been on a gritty, bitter, cold day on a planet of which he could barely recall the name. His then current employment had him as a "transporter of goods" and had left him with ample down time on this particular assignment for the better part of a week. He had located an apartment with weekly rental rates and took it so he could get himself out of that infernal ship of his and just relax. He was only about 26 at the time, and had never really bothered with relationships or love. Certainly he had had his fair share of amorous interest, but none ever lasted more than a scant few months. No, he was far too busy with pursuits of a monetary nature; until he saw the woman who would become his wife one day. Ironically enough when he met her she was already involved with someone else, and in fact nine months pregnant. She and her fiancé were members of some sort of guerrilla warfare unit, causing problems in the Outer Rim, but that didn’t really interest him in the least. They had been stranded on the same desolate planet as he had, and she was going into labor when they crossed paths. With little time to ponder the situation he invited the duo, along with several other friends who traveled in their party, back to his rented apartment where she gave birth to her daughter. Something in the situation infatuated him with the woman. Perhaps helping deliver her child had a bit of something to do with that, as he was the first person ever to hold the little girl.
The week they were in each others company went by quickly and he made friends with the entire entourage, but soon they all went their separate ways. He returned to his life of "transportation" and she to whatever she did for a living. Several months later a holo-mail invitation arrived to the wedding between her and her fiancé. He had never quite put the woman out of mind, but the infatuation had died down somewhat. The wedding made him realize he was unlikely to ever have this woman, not the first encounter had sold him on a future with her anyway. He enjoyed the day, and was happy she was happy, that was all he could be without betraying his own feelings and emotions.
His business dealings had begun to take off and he moved up within the organization he worked for until he was one of the highest ranking officials before he saw of her again. By this point she had had another child, this time a boy, and had gone to work as a medic for a mercenary outfit. It seemed the seeds of Rebellion ran deep in her.
By the time her spice addiction came to his attention he was in a position to help her, and help her he did.
From their affair grew a love which he was more than eager to requite. She divorced her always absent husband and in the matter of a few months she was engaged to Rezden. At this juncture in his career he had achieved a great deal in the criminal underworld, and wealth had been lavished on all those that surrounded him. The Family he was with now had replaced his own family from his youth, and she was the crown jewel, in his mind, to proving complete success and that what he wanted, he got. The pair married in a private ceremony on Kiffex, only his Family was present outside of her two children who were also in attendance.
The first few months of their marriage were spectacular to say the least. His shady and underhanded dealings were kept from her eyes and ears under the penalty of death to those who would betray the edict. While at home he was the model husband, showering her with affection, and the children with attention; while at work however, he was the ruthless leader a mob family required him to be. She adored him perhaps even more than he did her, though it was hard to tell over all.
After they'd been married approximately six months, she was found to be pregnant. Rez was thrilled to finally have his own flesh and blood heir which to pass his knowledge and wealth down to, this was one of the early signs of problems for the two. His planning for the arrival of the child took him away from the Family more and more, and they let him know it. The pendulum then swung heavily the other way. She began to hear the rumors of his actions around the galaxy and at one point even took a vacation without him to visit her family and try to clear her head of such outlandish notions. During this vacation members of his Family began to plant the seeds of doubt in his own mind about her fidelity and even her sanity outright. They suggested that she had returned to a life of spice. These accusations were levied by almost the entirety of his staff in a manner that he was sure to hear them and be forced to consider them. His closest and most trusted advisers suggested that his wife could no longer be trusted since she'd slipped back into the wretches of her addiction.
Over the period of the next 6 months he struggled with the decision regarding what to do about his bride. The whole while she appeared outwardly normal, but the seeds of doubt had been sewn in his mind, his very own agents so eager to keep him focused on leading that they were willing to destroy one of the things that made him so happy. Eventually however, he did just the opposite of what they wanted and expected of him. Together they devised a plan to leave the Family. It had never been done in the history of the organization. No one left the Family, ever, but he was going to be the first. He decided he was going to simply disappear with his wife and build a safe haven for them to live their days together. They didn't need much, a chateau, or a villa somewhere safe; a ship or two, just to get them from point A to point B. All they required were the essentials, not the elaborate palaces and expensive ships.
They'd set up an elaborate ruse to fool the agents who were in his office almost constantly. He admonished her in front of the agents, he screamed at her and told her he wanted a divorce because she was no better than a spice-riddled whore. She burst into faux tears and ran from the room apparently to depart his company. He had hoped to be convincing enough that his agents would believe he wanted nothing more to do with her and that the request for a divorce was a serious one, and Rezden sent her to see her parents so she would not be around when he tried to leave. She had explicit instructions to have her father message him with a maniacal message of anger upon her safe arrival. The message never came.
Rezden's agents reported her demise as the result of an accident whilst trying to land on Alderaan in the yacht he had bought her. The toxicology reports he was given indicated that she was on as many as 3 different variations of spice, including ryll which was known to be among the harshest. Rezden was devastated that he had lost his wife, and even more devastated that she had presumably duped him into believing she was sober. From that point on, his entire life had changed.
In the matter of a few months he announced his retirement from the criminal life, vowing to stay on as an advisor to whomever took his post as a king pin of the Outer Rim. He hoped he could at least put some distance between himself and the crime group. They weren't the largest of groups occupying the galaxy, and Black Sun had leaned heavily on them during his time as leader and Rezden had hoped the new leaders would focus their attentions more on matters of the survival nature instead of his imminent departure. Fortunately he was right in his expectations of their focus.
He was able to drift away from the Family, though not before one of the few higher ranking officials gave him a present; his child. It was explained to him that the child had been saved from the womb after the crash and had indeed not died with its mother during the accident. Foolishly it had been placed in an orphanage prior to being located by the Family and returned to Rezden. He had lost his wife and almost a full year with his new born child, but now he had faded into the background of the groups operations and was no longer a part of that lifestyle. He had heard from none of them in almost 2 years now and his child was pushing 3 years old; he was merely a part time gardener and a full time father.
At least he was, until the Empire took control of the Republic. Rezden recognized all the signs of corruption and greed every time he saw Josdon on the holo-net, and he, along with a few other friends had begun to discuss forming a rebel group to combat the Empire here in the Outer Rim.
Recent History
Ioho: Rezden returned home to Kuat to make some contacts with old associates and instead ran into trouble. Leaving Dehlia with the nanny droid, he was fortunate to escape in one piece. While there he ran into a woman named Alena Agrona. She seemed out of sorts and scared and Rezden offered her a meal in hopes to find out more about what had her so shaken. That was not meant to be however as fate intervened. First in the persons of a few thugs chasing her, then as they got separated, a bounty hunter named Sercin Kol attempted to capture Rezden. The hunters attempt was thwarted though as Rezden took only a minor wound before escaping into one of the planetary rings other chambers. He was quickly found by another traveller, Ella Moors. Ella wasn't the only one to find him though as Black Sun operative and assassin Flare Storm also found him and took him into custody, after wounding his leg to prevent him from running away.
She took Rezden, on board his own ship, and set out to return him to Coruscant and Black Sun. Again however, fate had other plans. A hunter was also on his ship, bent on taking in Rezden. Flare and the hunter tangled, leaving the assassin wounded. Rezden nursed her back to health over the ensuing days and the two fell for one another, fast and hard. How it happened, or even when specifically, Rezden wasn't sure. But instead of taking him to Coruscant, they stayed together in space, in the middle of nowhere making love and making plans for an unexpected future.
NPCs:
A 2 year old daughter named Dehlia. She toddles around, and speak broken basic. The servo droid is also teaching her a version of some other language that Rezden doesn't know, so every once in a while the girl will spout off some half sentence in an unintelligible dialect, stumping her father. She has her mothers smile and her fathers eyes, though Rezden sees a great deal of his younger sister in the girl as well.
A nanny servo-droid that cares for Dehlia on and off.
