Biography
Early Childhood
Born on the Core World of Fedalle thirty standard years ago, Zenaevia is the eldest child of Grielok and Riora Delakov. It had been a long standing tradition of the Delakov family for the men to partake in the politics of Fedalle, which often required an in-depth understanding of their capitalistic economy, something many of the Delakov men felt would be too complex for a woman to understand. Grielok would have never considered himself sexist as he never opposed to women being in politics; he simply felt that it would not be an appropriate for his own daughter to be involved in such matters. Fortunately for Grielok, he was blessed with a son, Tevik, shortly after Zenaevia’s birth.
For the first five years of her life, Zenaevia had what would be considered a rather fortunate childhood. Her family was wealthy and able to provide her with the basic necessities of life (and then some), and her mother lavished her with love. Although Grielok was often tied up with political matters and his son, he was still involved in Zenaevia’s early childhood in a positive way. However, as she got older, Zenaevia grew to be a bit of a tomboy and very stubborn; both attributes greatly concerned her parents, and shortly after Zenaevia’s fifth birthday, her mother was pregnant with another daughter, Sarika. Although they never mentioned it, Zenaevia later speculated they wanted another child to make up for her faults.
Grielok often blamed his wife for Zenaevia’s “uncharacteristic” masculine attributes, arguing that Riora simply was not doing a proper job of raising Zenaevia to be a suitable Delakov woman. However, when he saw how well his youngest daughter was turning out, Grielok assumed that Zenaevia was simply uncontrollable and he did his best to ignore his daughter. This naturally infuriated the young girl, and she would often go out of her way to gain her father’s attention, often through brazen acts such as running away or taking her mother’s jewelry. By the time Zenaevia was ten, Grielok grew tired of her attitude, and despite the objections from his wife, he sent his daughter away to boarding school on Alderaan. Although Zenaevia resented her father for his action, she would later come to appreciate his decision as the best thing that could have happened during her childhood.
Education on Alderaan
During her first year at the school, Zenaevia’s wild and rebellious tendencies still had control over the young girl, but when she met another girl, Ciry Takat, Zenaevia calmed down tremendously. The two girls were very similar, both coming from backgrounds that didn’t appreciate women who wanted more than to be a trophy wife to some wealthy man, and they became as close as sisters. The curriculum at the boarding school was slightly above the standard, giving Zenaevia a well-educated background, and it was also mandatory for all their students to partake in etiquette courses. As it was to be expected, Zenaevia did struggle with comprehending the usefulness of such classes, but she eventually learned the art of subtly and how powerful it could be.
Towards the end of her time at the boarding school (when she was about sixteen), Ciry had fallen in with a somewhat unsavory crowd, and the relationship that she and Zenaevia had fell apart. With only two years left, Zenaevia decided to forego relationships of any sort, and she indulged herself into her studies, taking a particularly strong interest in government, economics, and anything relating to politics. Her hard work paid off, as she graduated valedictorian, but she was uncertain of what she had wanted to do upon completing her education. Zenaevia had been offered a few jobs on Alderaan, but the young woman decided that she wanted to return to Fedalle.
Return to Fedalle
Riora did keep in touch with Zenaevia while her daughter was away, telling her about her father’s political success, Tevik’s academic achievements, and Sarika’s natural talents for being a housewife, but upon her return, Zenaevia found that her mother had painted a very idealized picture of her family. Grielok’s career was still very successful, and it seemed that he would be able to retire in a few years, but Tevik had constantly neglected his studies and duties as a political aide in exchange for partying, and there were rumors that questioned Sarika’s innocence. For the first time in Zenaevia’s life, her father was actually happy to see her.
He apologized profusely for his actions when she was younger, but Zenaevia could not find it within herself to believe him, much less forgive him; she felt that he was only apologizing because she was the only child that had turned out to be a decent member of society. However, she did need a place to stay while she found a steady career, preferably one in politics, and Zenaevia told her father that she forgave him simply as a means of getting what she needed from him. Sarika couldn’t have cared less about her older sister’s return, but Tevik often questioned Zenaevia’s motives, having a suspicion that she was manipulating their father. She threw his words back at him, asking her bother how it was possible that he could believe women were inferior to men and yet she was still able to outwit one. Tevik eventually gave up his crusade to incriminate his sister.
With her outstanding education, Zenaevia found it quite simple to get a job as an aide for one of the local politicians. The pay was satisfactory, and when she was twenty, Zenaevia was earning enough to leave her father’s home. This naturally caused some conflict when Grielok realized that his daughter was taking the job that his son was supposed to do, and his negative reactions to Zenaevia’s self-reliance proved to her that her father never truly forgave her; he only forgave the woman he thought she was. The young woman essentially cut off all ties from her family, only hearing about them occasionally when her father was mentioned in the world of politics; however, he retired shortly after she began her career, and she heard nothing from him or any other family member for about seven years.
Progress in Politics
During her time as an aide for a local representative, Zenaevia returned to school, deciding that it would be in her best interest to further her education, particularly in understanding Fedalle’s history and economy. She steadily moved up in the political world of Fedalle, and by the time she was twenty-seven, Zenaevia decided that she would run for Senator. Zenaevia garnered a lot of publicity, as it was well-known that the Delakov family not did support her decision and there was doubt that she would be able to fully represent Fedalle’s economic interests in the Senate, but despite the criticism from her opposition, Zenaevia proved that she had Fedalle’s corporate interests at heart and would stop at nothing to make sure that it continued to thrive. Zenaevia considered her election to the Senate to be the greatest moment of her life.
During her time in the Senate, Zenaevia proved to be true to her words, and overall, the citizens of Fedalle were extremely satisfied with their decision. She never heard from her family after her election, and Zenaevia decided that her father must have given up on trying to make her brother into one of the standard Delakov politicians as she never heard his name in any of the political happenings. The woman was immensely happy with her life, pleased that all her hard work had finally paid off and taking some delight in the failure of her siblings, and she felt confident that she would have a long and successful political career.
